Daniel Guillotin ("DG") answered Design Interview ("DI") questions about their award-winning work Altesalux Luminaire. Interview questions prepared by Frank Scott.
DG : The main idea of Altesalux is to create an object that is both sculpture and lighting. An object whose shapes and contours are also drawn by light.
DG : Create a luminous sculpture. An object that has a strong presence, almost like a human silhouette, legs well planted on the ground and arms raised to the sky.
DG : If this design is awarded, I hope it finds its place in the interiors of people passionate about particular objects, entirely handmade, curiosities that have their little history.
DG : This project took a year and several prototypes with a passionate work with carpenter cabinetmaker
DG : It is a desire for creation, a passion for material and craftsmanship. The desire to create freely, without marketing constraints ... A great luxury.
DG : I do not know yet, this project is new to me. I come from graphic design and I have not yet experience object design. I am not against the idea of selling the rights to productions and moving on to new creations because that is my main motivation.
