DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
FS : The exterior of building imitates the mountain ridge and uses the different materials to express the image of mountain, wind, tree and sea of cloud, and so on. Without too much decoration, using the natural stone to create the majestic visual effect.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
FS : Facing Mt. Ali, the establishment is built and designed under the philosophy of mountains. The outlook of the villa is used crest lines and vary materials to metaphor natural images like mountains, wind, trees, and clouds.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
FS : Because of winning this award, I will be better able to use my own knowledge to come back to social, and pass my experience on people who endeavor in the field of design.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
FS : The project design started in May 2015 in Chiayi City, finished in June 2016. And built from June 2016 to June 2018 December.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
FS : I like the opus with streak and combines with local culture.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
FS : My design is not used by another company, I intent to produce my work by myself.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
FS : For me, design is like breathing. All the inspiration given by nature, every streak and light-shadow in nature is so beautiful and free. This is the best design!
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
FS : Carlos Páez Vilaro from Paraguay is the one who influence me the most. As an artist and designer, he perfectly makes aesthetics in harmony with nature. This is also my goal.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
FS : The design is a Residential House.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
FS : We use a large number of Lo-e glass to beautify the appearance and have the effect of environment protection. This case is a perfect combination of aesthetics and environment protection.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
FS : The establishment is built and designed under the philosophy of mountains. The outlook of the villa is an imitation of Mountain Alishan. The French casements allow you to enjoy the beautiful scenery of mountain Alishan in any season of the year and Low-e glass is used for the eco-friendly residence. The main wall in living space used the nature stone with different depths in a clear and colorful way which connects to the view of Alishan mountain.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
FS : Low-e glass, exposed concrete, titanium plating, black textured stone, thin stone, wood plastic composites, gray glass, sulfur amber glass, toggle, Al-clad, antique luminous pearl, Shandong gray, log, classical grain, carrara white, electric TV lift cabinet, curtain wall, engraving ink.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
FS : The main wall in living space used the nature stone with different depths in a clear and colorful way which connects to the view of Alishan mountain. Dining area designed by customized wood table which uses a great amount of stones to create the naturally living attitude. By furnishing in design, it makes outdoor environment be viewing clearly and create a relaxed place even in the corner.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
FS : Without doubt, I collaborate with people with specialized skills, this is one of important part in complete this design.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
FS : By furnishing in deign. It makes outdoor environment be viewing and creates a relaxed place even in the corner. Using the glass material to separate living and sleeping area not only extend the vision but keep the privacy. It also possess a great sleeping quality without interference with the theme of neutral tonality. The special points for this opus are cabinets designed by containing exhibit and storage ability which can exhibit the collectable. Thoughtful design for collection room can be used to storage and exhibit.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
FS : We use the design of raft foundation and S.R.C structural design. In the part of earthquake assessment reports, we make the level 8 earthquake-resistance numbers. We use a large number of Lo-e glass to beautify the appearance and have the effect of environment protection. In the aspect of landscape, we deliberately heighten the building and the fence to create the waterscape. It can not only maintenance the privacy but also have function of reducing temperatures. This case is a perfect combination of aesthetics and environment protection.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
FS : The concept of big mountain is the main spindle of design in this case. The streak of eaves is similar to the ridge which has ups and downs. To hang the large span ranges of roof plank on the wall is a big challenge for us. Another big challenge for us is to stay the large area of glasses without causing the global warming.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
FS : By submitting my design to an international design competition, I want to enhance my abilities, and to push my design to the international.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
FS : Keep taking challenges and never restrict yourself. The most important is having enthusiasm.
DI: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
FS : A great designer has heavy duties of society and environment. An excellent technique can treat nature well and a great idea is the best social education.
