Kin Wa Chan ("KWC") answered Design Interview ("DI") questions about their award-winning work Zodiac Horse Ring Jewelry. Interview questions prepared by Frank Scott.
KWC : The concept of Zodiac Horse Ring was inspired by Alexander Calder. He was a modern American artist who is best known for his innovative mobiles, kinetic and wire sculptures that embrace chance in their aesthetic and his monumental public sculptures.
KWC : Zodiac Horse Ring is structurally interconnected with a complex wire network of different thickness that provides the ring with a resilient surface tension and overall strength of structure. Desmond created a stylized horse leaving many negative spaces to explore the delicate balanced tension between positive and negative space.
KWC : I would like to keep developing it in a collection with different animals.
KWC : This project started in early 2016 and finished on November 2016.
KWC : Zodiac Horse Ring was designed for the Zodiac Morphosis at Loft22 exhibition. Zodiac Morphosis is a tribute to Master Nghiem, graduate of the last class of Vietnam University and recognized as among the four most influential Vietnamese painters of 20th-century whose works had spanned years of war and peace, inspiring generations of artists in Vietnam and art lovers worldwide.
