DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: It came from the need to make a 2mm lead holder for me. I did what I wanted as a personal tool....eventually I made it part of the Venvstas writing instruments collection.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: I wanted to do a lot with very little...that's all. Something that I would see as timeless.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: Its going on production. It will be sold worldwide as part of the Venvstas collection.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: I cant remember, it was made along with other designs, so, I would say its the last one of a series. Usually I work with many things in parallel, so time tracking its not important.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: I did it just for me at the beginning, as I couldn't find what I wanted. Eventually I saw others like me would like it, as it happened.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: Its set for production via Venvstas, a firm I co-own with a partner.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
: The need to summarize a design object in a very small scale.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
: Just some previous work from my brother.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: People like me. Probably.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: Looks and feels totally different. Its just different.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: Designer 7, there's also a designer 8, 7 milliliters wide, therefore 7, designer I think speaks for itself.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
: A saw........it can be a great tool.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: the way it looks.......besides that, its just a pencil.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
: Nobody. Just me.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
: well......this can be made in 10 years or 90 ago....so...seems technology has nothing to do. Its based on another design I did that is maybe 15 or more years old.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
: No. Never.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: Work with composites. They have their own logic and you have to learn it.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
: I started to get copied........maybe was a way of defending myself, but also the brand.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
: I have discovered a hidden ability as an artisan. It helps. As the Bauhaus taught us this combination of intellectual, artistic work with a more to the ground craftsmanship can make a better product. If you know the processes involved, its easier to tell to craftsmen what to do, and also, they will respect you.
