DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: Everyone knows tulips. They are the jewels amongst our flowers, a great joy to many of us. A typical Dutch icon. Tulips are a great inspiration to many artists and designers, including me. I wanted to integrate the company logo into this design.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: I want to give the user a feeling of floating / rocking
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: We will produce the Tulpi-Bench by ourself and we will try to sell it all over the world.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: It took about 2 months to design this concept and it took 3 weeks to engineer it.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: Tulpi-Bench is a new addition to the Tulpi product line inspired by the company logo: a Tulip. I want to
expand our range of street furniture.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: I plan to produce the Tulpi-Bench myself?
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
: I am very interested in our environment, especially in our cities.
The public space, how it is arranged and its effect on people.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
: No other designers
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: Goverment

DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: It makes a slightly rocking movement
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: The first word is the company-name and the second the product name.
I combined these two words.

: The experience to sit comfortable and the possibility to slightly rocking

: I worked together with Sjors Huybregts (engineer)

: The possibility to slightly rocking
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: While designing Tulpi-Bench, the shape of our company logo had to stay. And the possibily to rocking.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
: I want to try to become a respected designer for street furniture. By participating in design competitions,
I would ‘measure up’ to other designers.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
: To create movement in my design by steel parts.
