DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: A figurine toy made out of wood, without any plastic; ecological but flexible and friendly looking.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: Our main objective was to create an ecological and playable family of characters that could develop a lot of different worlds like cars, motorcycles, camping...
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: The capability of the Wonkis to grow and create all kinds of scenarios is endless. We already have a horse, Viking warriors, medieval knights, mountain hikers and climbers, surfers, etcetera.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: Almost two years.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: It is a lifetime project. I always wanted to create playable toys that are at the same time 100% ecological and have a good design.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: We intend to produce the work ourselves.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
: I guess I wanted to be a kid forever and play all the time. Since it was not possible, I decided to design toys.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
: Everything and everybody influence the work of a designer. This one thing somebody told you one day or something you watched in a movie. It is impossible to know who and what influenced you.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: Children older than 3 and parents that still love to play like us. People with a special sensibility towards ecological toys.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: It does not mean anything at all. It is sonorous.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
: Walking to be able to think, a pencil to be able to draw, a lot of paper to be able to redraw, 3D tools to get as close to the real object as possible and CNC tools to build it.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: Keep it simple.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
: Besides me and my wife (the designing team in Wodibow) I collaborated with an engineer to develop the joint system.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
: CNC technology makes it possible to be produced at a large scale.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
: After having an idea, we start a phase of research in order to find out if somebody else had the same idea and actually developed it.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: Time. It is never enough.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
: We believe that the recognition of international awards is important for the brand.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
: Impossible is nothing.
