DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: I find best part of my design inspiration from car design and architecture.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: The target was an exceptional vessel, something in between a sporty motor yacht and a true explorer vessel. Personal, elegant, dynamic and timeless in the same part.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: The aim is to present it to final clients when all technical aspects will be solved, in order to create a pre-engineered concept which could save precious time to the possible owner. And of course winning another one!
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: The process length is always different, in this case it took at least 5 weeks because of the client’s feedbacks and requests were been a lot.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: It was commissioned by the client, but I was going to start to working on something similar before the agreement.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: Everything was made in house by Hot Lab team.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
: I saw a beautiful trawler with a massive central air exhaust. I tried to mention it in a modern vessel; I think everything comes from this idea.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
: Basically my influence comes from the car design. In this case I took some inspiration from '70s Italian car designers.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: The target customer needs something different. There are several 60 m yacht proposals in the market, most of them are impersonal.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: Nothing in particular. Every concept is for a different shipyard or client, for this reason the creating process is always different.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: Naming is coming from the shipyard and it is a character in Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne. This to emphasize the idea that this vessel may travel everywhere, anytime.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
: Obviously I use the same tools for every project. Nothing special: hand sketch on my tablet, after that we worked with the 3D software for create the 3D model and the photorealistic renderings.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: I approach every element of the project in the same way; everything is part of the same concept. Again, I take care of every detail, every shape, and every edge. This is a typical car designer approach; the yacht design process is usually more unfocused on details.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
: The guys in Hot Lab studio collaborate with me, mainly during the 3D model building process.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
: The glass technology made a big improvement in the last years now is possible to build huge windows without penalizing the safety. This concept was not possible to build some years ago.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
: The only analytical research I made is in the market, I need to know the trends and the most requested features.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: Mainly it was difficult to find the space for the big swimming pool forward to the master cabin.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
: Hot Lab usually submits several design works to international competitions.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
: Nothing in particular. I learn a lot during every design work, it will be the same next time.
DI: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
: I think we went through most of the crucial aspects.
