We had the distinct pleasure to interview award winning designer Tingting Han about their original and creative fashion design work. Tingting Han is an award-winning fashion designer, that makes our world a better place with their original fashion works.
Tingting Han ("TH") answered Design Interview ("DI") questions about their award-winning work The Control fashion. Interview questions prepared by Frank Scott.
TH : living with the natural element and attitude all the time
TH : Use leather to make a sculpture, and show people the possibility of dressing with it.
TH : promote my brand
TH : It took me around one month to complete the research and the whole concept, and 2 weeks to finish the sketch of this collection.
TH : In fact, it's for my graduation collection.
TH : I will finish the whole collection for my own brand in future.
TH : I would like to change people's way of thinking. I think the most of the garments which people are wearing now are too boring like uniforms. There's no attitude and personality in it. I consider the garments which we are dressing up should express our soul. It's our second skin, not only a piece of fabric.
TH : People who are living with dreams.
TH : In fact, the whole collection based on an imaginary story which I made, it's talking about hundred years later, after a war between human and animals. People begin to respect nature and look for a sustainable development method to balance nature and culture. They use animals' image to decorate their out looking. Not only like a trophy but also as a fashion element to show their characters and personalities. For example, leopard shows strong-willed, snake presents level-headed, bird explains freedom... So, "The Control" is to express the controlling right and the balance between human and natural.

TH : the sculpture part which made by leather

TH : tanning technique, dripping with stretch fabric and hiding the cutting line behind the sculpture part.
TH : I did a lot of research of Art Deco and Art Nouveau style, to studying the langue of silhouette and streamline. Then I sketched many kinds of animals to design the sculptures.
TH : The first challenge was making a sculpture which could follow people's bodyline and won't bother normally action, so I made the construction with iron wire and sculpted on a mannequin with clay. The second challenge and also the most difficult one was tanning leather into a 3d shape. I stapled wet leather with massive pins on corners of the sculpture, then used steam of iron on leather hundreds of hours to make it stretched and clinging the sculpture. At the last, the leather could be taken off from the sculpture but still keep the shape stable.
TH : I want to show my work to the world.
TH : The limited of tanning, and the mechanics influence of merger different fabrics.
TH : I got a lot of inspiration from an Artist called Selçuk Yilmaz, his metal sculpture work is amazing and after talking with him, I decided to find my way to express animals. And another artist - Thomas Dimetto's graphic also inspired me.
