DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?

: It starts as an exploration of free form and parametric design.

DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?

: Light is both dynamic and static. I want to create a scene which switches characters in different conditions.

DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?

: Promote it, sell it, and share the concept with people. I also want to build it in a scale about 1000 times larger.

DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?

: This project started from scratch since 2014.

DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?

: This is a pursuit of an inspiration.

DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?

: It’s not being produced or used by another company. I plan to sell or lease the production rights or to produce my work by myself.

DI: What made you design this particular type of work?

: I want to challenge the dynamic and static nature of lighting installation.

DI: Who is the target customer for his design?

: This is for individuals, collectors, interior designers, or architects.

DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?

: The way light is interpreted

DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?

: I think “Hurricane” is purposely selected for the dynamic effect no matter the light is on or off.

DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?

: Rapid-Prototyping (RP) technology and parametric design software

DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?

: The way light is interpreted

DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?

: It’s very crucial in controlling design quality and explore design possibilities.

DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?

: I have been working on the morphology of shapes for the dynamic nature of hurricane.

DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?

: The first challenge was to create a solid image next to the void one to extend the virtual boundary of the design. The reflection inside the double-layered box did it. The second one was to distribute light from the bottom to the top without too much reduction. The arrangement of hurricane pieces solved most of the problem.

DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?

: I think it’s time to meet people, to introduce myself, and discuss concept with people.

DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?

: The preliminary jury did help
