DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: The inspiration for this design is literally a gear sprocket and chain. The light is actually a scaled replica of a gear and chain.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: I wanted to challenge my self in this design. Crafting the center sprocket was particularly challenging. The sprocket appears to weigh hundreds of kilos, when in reality it weighs only 30 kilos.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: I would like to be able to sell this design. I see it hanging in a motorcycle dealership. The light would be an awesome display in a motorcycle shop, or bicycle shop.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: The entire design of this light took several months.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: This light was designed to satisfy my own personal challenge.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
: The design is 100 percent my own. When designing, I do not look at other works.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: A retail store chain such a a motorcycle shop or bicycle shop.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: This light is a unique light. There is nothing like this light existing in today's market.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: The name Sprocket describes exactly what the light is.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
: Auto CAD drafting is my primary design tool.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: The illumination is unique. The wiring of these lights are unique and modular.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
: The method in how this light was wired is technologically advanced. The chain in particular, is modular. As a new link is added to the chain, it will automatically light up.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: The fabrication of the center sprocket was particularly challenging. The method in how the LEDs are assembled and wired in the chain is challenging.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
: The development of the technology to wire this light gave new insight for future projects.
