DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: Since its foundation in 1998, Omdesign has offered limited editions to its partners and clients as a Christmas gift. Every year, a beverage is chose and the agency creates a customised label, bottle and packaging. In 2015, in partnership with Blandy's, the largest Portuguese producer of Madeira wine, we designed a special edition for a 5 year old Madeira. This wood and cardboard packaging has a distinctive opening, with the two sides forming a V for Victory, an allusion to the 32 awards won during last year.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: Audacity, as well as our other values (dedication, objectivity, precision and excellence), took us to these 32 awards. Our inspiration has come from them to create, with simplicity and premiumness, this outstanding packaging that proud us and had surprised all our partners and clients.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: The project started in the beginning of November 2015 in Porto (Portugal) and finished in December 2015.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: Since its foundation in 1998, Omdesign has offered its partners and clients a special, customised and exclusive edition of a present for Christmas with the motto: Sharing our values with you since 1998.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: This packaging was entirely created and produced by the agency Omdesign.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
: The packaging consists of 15 pieces of wood, without any nails or screws. The wood is simply dovetailed and glued and encased in a cardboard sleeve, which closes it and also acts as a hinge. It has a distinctive opening, with the two sides forming a V for Victory, an allusion to the awards won, and there is a message inside: 32 international and national awards in 2015 are worth a thousand words. Thank you very much for your preference. A toast to audacity, to excellence and to our partnership.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: Our clients and partners.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: Apart from mentioning the 32 awards, the label also includes a neck hanger with some of the values that characterise us and to which we are always true. These values have been fundamental to the success of our clients, which is also our success. The back label contains a message from the general manager of Omdesign, celebrating these awards with all of our partners and clients.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: This development was a great challenge for all team and Omdesign's suppliers which had to create a unique and premium packaging with distinctive characteristics using noble materials.
