DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: The luxurious Porto Ferreira 200YO lot is a unique packaging totally handcrafted with noble materials, such as silver, exotic wood and natural leather. Inside this packaging, that was auctioned by Sotheby's in the Tower of London in May 2015, there are 5 Porto Ferreira Vintage wines. This lot was marketed under the Luxury of Time concept and only one person had the pleasure to open and appreciate this rarity.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: This lot was marketed under the Luxury of Time concept, entirely designed by Omdesign with the aim of reflecting the new and exclusive luxury positioning that Porto Ferreira brand took its inspiration from, having the patience to wait until now to launch it on the market.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: The project started in June 2014 in Porto (Portugal) and finished in May 2015, in London, with the auction by Sotheby's.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: The Portuguese agency Omdesign was in charge of create and produce this unique and highly luxurious edition.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: Porto Ferreira 200YO lot is totally handcrafted by Portuguese craftsmen with luxurious materials, such as silver, exotic wood and natural leather. Inside this exclusive packaging there are 5 exceptional Porto Ferreira Vintage Port wines (1947, 1952, 1985, 1994 and 1997) and a book. Only was created and produced, by the Portuguese advertising agency Omdesign, a single packaging (1 unit).
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: Only one person had the pleasure to open and appreciate this rarity with 5 of the most delightful Porto Ferreira Vintages. The key that closes this packaging reinforces the exclusivity and magic of these historic Port wines. In order to guarantee the main characteristics and quality of these wines, we produced a packaging with 5 drawers, because it is the best way to preserve them.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: This lot contains 5 bottles of Vintage Port that fill the 200-year age-gap between the auction and the Battle of Waterloo. One of them is a 1.5-litre magnum bottle of Porto Ferreira from 1947, to celebrate the wedding of Queen Elizabeth II, and also a bottle from 1952, in honour of the Queen's accession to the throne, a rarity, coming as it does from a year when the company was one of the few to declare a Vintage.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: The challenge was create a unique and luxurious packaging with 5 extraordinary Port wines that together result in 200 years.
