DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
LO : The key idea was to create a space for free and open people, with quality food, delicious pastries, and desserts. The name and brand beech inspired us; the bird-man was invented based on the works of the famous Ukrainian writer and philosopher Hryhoriy Skovoroda.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
LO : The key was to fit 3 different types of seating, technology, a coffee bar, storage areas, and a bathroom into 50m2. This was very challenging. We redesigned the layout more than 20 times, and it took us almost 2 months.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
LO : I would like this project to be seen by as many people as possible, in printed design media. I want the whole world to know how bright, tasty, and juicy modern interior design in Ukraine is.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
LO : It took us almost 5 months to develop the concept and full design project.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
LO : The main influence we got from the brand book. It was our first design departure. After that, we visited ISaloni 2023 and it also gave so much inspiration.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
LO : Modern people with a free spirit and vision.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
LO : It`s a bold mixture: combining caramel ceiling, bouclé textiles, milk praline in the trim, pistachio details, with rough concrete, metal, and glass. All together is just working perfectly.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
LO : A huge team of real professionals worked on this project. Starting with the design team of my bureau and the technologist. Finishing with decorative craftsmen and textile designers. We like to say: each spoon for the cafe was chosen with love among the best artisans.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
LO : I participate in international competitions all the time. This is the best cross-section of your professional activity.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
LO : You have to be open to new possibilities, even if at the beginning it seems like a challenge and a big problem. In the end, all changes lead to the best result.
