DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: We wanted to redefine the way we look and electric car chargers. Most of the time, we see electrical boxes with some cables. Sometimes we see unnecessary organic shapes that have no function apart from taking valuable space. Our inspiration was 'Good Design' in the means of creating a simple and honest object with high quality materials and enjoyable user experience.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: We focused on placing all important physical interaction points in optimal position for all types of users. We also placed light indicators to inform users off-line and on the spot about the charger's status. Regarding the enclosure itself: we focused on hiding all screws and hinges, achieving thin trim lines and using high quality materials to reach a new level of aesthetics in electric car chargers.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: This design was a joint development between Maform and Evopro Group's Green Mobility Department. Their goal was to enter the market with a new, higher quality solution for electric car commuters.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: eCharger is manufactured and sold by Evopro Group.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: The target customers are shopping malls, park houses and business centres.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: eCharger brings a whole new quality to electric car chargers: with it's central glass interface, it's a humble work of art.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: The most unique part is the glass interface. It gently emerges for the front surface, giving rhythm to the front panel.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
: We collaborated with Evopro Group's electrical engineering team. We learned a lot about designing for strict regulations and organising purely functional spaces to achieve higher level of aesthetics.
