DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
MKBR : My main goal is to tell a story about our relationship with ourselves and with our environment, which implies the family and social relationship.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
MKBR : My main focus was always to transform a classic tale into a story in the best possible way. I wanted the reader to enjoy the journey of this character through the images.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
MKBR : My plans are to talking with some editorials to see if this children's book could reach more people and see what kind of response it gets. Furthermore, it is an important reference for future publications.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
MKBR : From start to finish, it took me about 1 year to complete this project. He had to find time in addition to being self-employed, so it was mainly on Fridays and weekends.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
MKBR : I was inspired to apply all the techniques I had learned from illustration until then to tell this story. In addition to seeking inspiration from different authors of children's books.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
MKBR : At the moment, it is already published and for sale.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
MKBR : I have always loved illustration, as well as the story itself. It is telling a story on a more dreamlike level.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
MKBR : No, not in this project
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
MKBR : Children who are at ages to improve their reading and adults who enjoy an adventure.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
MKBR : At a visual level, the mixture of digital techniques with manuals such as Indian ink. And on a social level, responsibility.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
MKBR : It comes from a classic tale, I like to keep it because I love crows.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
MKBR : I used a combination of Adobe programs including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign with manual techniques like Indian ink, gold acrylic, silver, and fabric to create textures.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
MKBR : I think it could be the message it conveys to children and the illustration techniques.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
MKBR : I worked alone on this project. Although the English version, It was with the service of a professional translator.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
MKBR : I used a computer and software that I needed to put together the design. In addition to virtual stores such as amazon for publication.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
MKBR : I did a little research on how children interact with children's books, what kind of stories they are looking for, and how they perceive them.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
MKBR : The time and process of a children's books can be very long, continuous reviews of history and some frustration or anxiety that result from it.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
MKBR : I decided that I would add some credibility to the design concept and the effort involved in this type of art so I decided to enter a competition that offered a category applicable to my design concept.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
MKBR : Increase my research on behaviors at an early age, furthermore improve my illustration techniques, and stay coherence in the story.
