DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: This kind of art chair just like a substitute for melody. I mean that the “music” can be real touch and see. So the users could enjoy when they use it.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: I want to make abstract into concrete, so I made melody into my art work. Especially, it can make you feel and touch the music.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: Keep going and making better design
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: The design process took about 8 months from sketch to paintng the 3D simulation. And then, the art work was finished after structure strength tests for 8 weeks.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: The inspiration of the chair comes from music. The soft music I’m used to listening. I just wanna tell people how I feel in that moment. So I made it out.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: Actually, the product haven’t been mass production , because I haven’t found a company willing to produce. So I produce by myself.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
: Music. The inspiration is from music. Especially, love songs.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
: My friends who are also interior designers give me some good advice.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: The people who love my design.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: Everyone has their own thoughts and feelings. Every designs are different and special.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: Because the chair consists of 7 curves, so I named the chair Symphony Number 7
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
: I used many design tools but the most interesting part was printed 1:1 model from 3D printing machine.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: I think it is the appearance of the chair. It’s not only a chair but also a piece of music.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
: My college mates, my professor and I collaborated on this project. My professor is a technical engineer of furniture.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
: I use tube bender CNC first and then weld them. The seat cushion is sewed by hand.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
: The chair is ergonomically designed. Ergonomics is the process of designing products so that they fit the people who use them.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: The components of both sides were hard to weld precisely
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
: I would like to broaden my horizons and make friends with designers from various countries. This helps me a lot.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
: Believe in myself. When I face the difficulty, think twice and sort out the problems.
