DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: Inspired by the glimmering diamonds and pearl plates on full dress under the light of runway, and combining design elements of full dress with the client’s starry sky dream.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: It took me a while to figure out how to properly express the sense of future and the frontline artistic sense to not only attract customer attention, but also satisfy the basic functions of a fashion store, including exhibition and sales. My goal is to build a store selling women’s wear with its own characteristics.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: My future plan is to come up with more valuable design.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: About two weeks.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: No,I won't.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
: I designed the project by myself, and I was influenced by the client.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: First of all, this is an exhibition and sales store with a strong sense of future and designed revolving around the “galaxy.” The exhibition and sales store also lists the fairy-series haute couture of this brand. Second, I think “Andromeda” is a name suitable and nice for this store.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
: Before the design, I made use of the flashlight, water, tin foil paper, clay and mirror to imitate the design effect. In the process of designing the sketch, I make use of CAD, Sketch Up, PS and AI.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: What is the most unique about this project is that this project is a store for sales and exhibition of women’s wear with its own characteristics. The store is full of the sense of future. The fairy-series full dresses made up of materials with a misty texture are adopted.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
: The engineering difficulty and construction process posed a great challenge to the construction team, but they did a good job. The processing and technological part which they were in charge of played an important role.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
: Before finalization of the design project, my research and analysis have influenced and inspired me to a large extent.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: Design, sampling, customization, installation and effect realization of the irregular aluminum plates on the ceiling should be finished with tight schedule and low budget. It takes around two months to finish customization and a worker’s half day to install one aluminum plate. The inconsistent top pipeline height requires precise measurement. Hardware facilities are installed on aluminum plates to facilitate follow-up maintenance and disassembly. To achieve effects of façade glass, Tammy and the construction team experimented for many times.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
: This was the first time that I participated in the design competition. I hoped that this design project would be an opportunity for me to clarify my design proficiency.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
: I spent lots of time visiting good designs and exhibitions, paying more attention to the design field, and thinking more design issues deeply.
