DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?

: Metamorphosing between visible and invisible, the Spirit of God is manifested in a variety of forms, as the blazing “fire” represents the true form of the visual description of Holy Spirit. It is not only a reflection of God’s absolute holiness and righteousness, but also a special token for God’s covenant with his children. And This was also the inspiration of our design.

DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?

: How to convey the fire of the holy spirit and the feeling of holiness through this project and touch the audience was the focus of our attention.

DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?

: Keeping on designing more and more great projects.

DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?

: About two month.

DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?

: The fire of holy spirit is not only a reflection of God’s absolute holiness and righteousness, but also a special token for God’s covenant with his children. It is symbolic of the glory of God’s judgment too holy to be beheld, while shedding light on the fact that only after going through the trial by fire could we aspire to be worthy of the crown of life.

DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?

: We have’t considered it yet.

DI: What made you design this particular type of work?

: We were inspired by a chance to observe the shape of the seeds of the tiny grass.

DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?

: Muchen Zhang and I worked together on concept determination and program implementation.

DI: Who is the target customer for his design?

: All the visitors to this exhibition.

DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?

: We used the whole space to express the sense of jumping and burning of Holy Spirit like fire. We hope that the inner spiritual world of the viewers can be touched by physical space and simple language of artistic form.

DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?

: Our name came from the word of The holy Bible: "I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.” said John the Baptist.

DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?

: We used the language and technique of very pure artistic installation to do this project..

DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?

: The sense of flame and light was represented by the use of dense and aggregate red lines.

DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?

: We worked closely and together with the Venice Design 2018 organization team and the local construction team. They gave us concrete technical support.

DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?

: In this project, ideas and thoughts played a main role and technology accounted for a small proportion.

DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?

: We’re not influenced by data or analytical research. We more explored and pursued the human spirit and faith.

DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?

: Three people, we and another one colleague, completed this project little by little by hand in four days. Because the time was tight and the insertion and fixation between the wire and the steel mesh was not as smooth as we had expected, it was a great challenge for us to complete this project before we showed it. But through hard and all-night work, we finally finished this project before showing it.

DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?

: Being part of an international design competition would allow more people, either laymen or professionals, from other countries to know about our work. And we expect it to bring in more opportunities for professional exchanges and real projects.

DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?

: Design pursues the inner spirit. The less and simpler use of design language and techniques, the better design will be.
