DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: We deeply excavated the contemporary people's taste of the times and the needs of life. In this case, the modern low-luxury, natural and humanistic personality design was mixed, and the design of the luxury and the shackles was adhered to, and the leisurely life style of Chengdu was adhered to.
The inspiration of the design from an ancient Chinese poem chants: “The swallow that used to visit only an imperial courtyard, now flies into a normal family’s home.” The project intends to integrate the traditional idea of courtyard and the modern sense of rituality. After you enter the house, you will find a free and leisurable domestic space which embraces history and urbanity.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: The western Chengdu is historically acclaimed as the Ancient Kingdom of Paradise for its pretty natural landscapes, long cultural history, and unique food style.How to create livable space while integrating the leisurely and aristocratic temperament of the area has become the primary consideration of our design.
Therefore, our goal is that through the interpretation of local culture and contemporary context to create a multi-dimensional humanistic art space which adhere to the leisurely life style of Chengdu city .
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: The target customer of Wanke Jinxitang project are the forties who in new rich class . For those ,the biggest gift is not the extravagant things that symbolize identity, but the natural beauty of daily life ...that means the modern low-luxury, natural and humanistic personality design meet their needs at most, and thus contribute to the derivation of this concept.
This design was commissioned by Vanke Real Estate ,but also was inspired by our own inspiration. We strive to integrate the traditional idea of courtyard and the modern sense of rituality in this project .
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: This design completely implemented the original intention of the design that soft and hard equipment should be a integration. A mature design work must reflect life and history. The pursuit of the beauty of human and the beauty of the courtyard which reflected in the concept is what made it part from other similar or resembling concepts
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: The most unique aspect of this design may be the careful coordination and application of the colour .
The design selects stone materials which show natural landscape textures and the artistic tapestries of traditional Chinese landscape paintings, adopts champagne golden stainless steels, matches with dark grey wooden panels, warm grey wall papers, artistic glass and stone mosaic surfaces, and scatters some natural creature symbols and artistic installations for touching mystic depth of consciousness. The entire space demonstrates a fresh interpretation of life through seeking the subtle balance between splendor and humility in materials.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: The main challenges of this project are the very tight construction deadline, comparatively low budget, and the difficulties of installing the soft and hard-textural materials at the same time during construction. Other challenges for design are to create artistic spaces which can respond to local cultural identity and meanwhile maintain an active dialogue between the memory of eastern tradition and the creative interpretation of modernity across cultural differences.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
: To be an excellent designer,only mastering design knowledge is not enough . Therefore, in addition to keeping learning design knowledge, I also broaden my horizon through the other major art forms ,such as literature, music, architecture etc as well as the future secondary culture. Besides, to get inspiration from travel is another good way. As for me ,travel is the process of reading, in other words, travel is also a learning process, which help me improve myself a lot .
DI: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
: Design is always full of unknowns but also full of charm. As a designer, integrating design value with social value and turning passivity to initiative, is what we must to do .So we should constantly explore and try, keeping learning in case of falling behind the society.
