DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: I have multiple piercings and I've been wearing simple studs for years. There's nothing wrong with it but I think there's an opportunity to explore the design of multiple piercing earrings beyond that.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: I tried to find the balance between the aesthetic and practically, something that to me is aesthetically pleasing and at the same time is flexible enough to accommodate various ear sizes and distances between the ear holes. I wanted a solution that doesn't involve customizing for every ear as that'd be easier to achieve whatever aesthetic you want but that's art and not design I think.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: to sell them.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: The concept, one night. The whole refining process back and forth, two months.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: I'd love to sound a bit more noble but really this one was the first of the multiple earrings and I designed it for myself.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: I started a company to produce earrings now.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
: Actually I've always been interested in Jewelry design for years. I enjoyed making my own jewelry, tried to experiment with dangle necklaces also with some interior samples because I worked in mostly Interior Design studios. But I realized there are enough beautifully designed necklaces out there just as I think there's enough chairs designed in this world. No need for my contribution there. Earrings especially made for multiple piercings, I'm not sure as many people cared about it but I guess I do.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: Women with Multiple Piercings
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: Mr Hip Stylist. In all honesty, I probably should have taken the Hip out. Most people I think don't have a personal stylist unless you are in that other world. I just like to give my earrings names. For fun.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: Creating aesthetically pleasing forms I think are easy, you can take a walk and turn whatever you see, water, clouds, to a piece of grass and turn it into something beautiful but I think the challenge is to achieve that and have it works with the shape of the ear, then the flexibility for different ear sizes, the different distances of ear holes. I wanted to solve the practically of it and maintain the concept and aesthetic I want at the same time.
