DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?

EVL : The inspiration is the dunes, water and air at Cadsand, The Netherlands. Catching the form of the dunes and the liquid of the touching water in a sky which changes colors every hour.

DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?

EVL : To play with proportions and let the diamond show in its full glory by opening up the ring and setting as much as posssible.

DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?

EVL : To show it at a number of private events and show what is possible whith unique stones.

DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?

EVL : The total design time is over 80 hours.

DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?

EVL : This unique ring is designed out of the inspiration i felt during my stay at the North Sea. The design is not commissioned.

DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?

EVL : The design is made, develloped and produced in the atelier of Eric van Limpt. There is not yet any concrete lead for leasing the production rights. However open to suggestions.

DI: What made you design this particular type of work?

EVL : Pushing yourselves in every new day, designing and producing unique jewellery is magnificant to do.

DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?

EVL : Just the inspiration of nature was the base for the design of The Dunes..

DI: Who is the target customer for his design?

EVL : This will be high end customers, appreciating unique styled products.

DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?

EVL : To start with the stone, this diamondcut doesn't excist in any way in a size 2.42ct, the design of The Dunes is a combination of fluent lines ending under the stone in a single ball, it is unique.

DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?

EVL : The Dunes, named after the single row of sand keeping The Netherlands protected from high sea levels.

DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?

EVL : The ring is designed from start to finish on Matrix 3d.

DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?

EVL : Two things, How the diamond is set and the way this diamond is visible from all sides.

DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?

EVL : I did collaborate in the manufactering proces with a 3d printing and casting company.

DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?

EVL : The technology played a huge part in producing The Dunes, designing in 3D, Printing in 3D.

DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?

EVL : The design is influenced by making test pieces untill the right strength and flow was found.

DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?

EVL : The most difficult to realize were the dimensions between material, the stone and air in between the parts.

DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?

EVL : A Design Award is a well known and famous competition, where i surely want to be a part of.

DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?

EVL : I learned more about giving air to jewellery, and thinking different about nature.

DI: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?

EVL : Taking part of A Design Award and challenge myselve to reach the highest goal has been a very cool journey.
