DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: The main principle is the respect or the appreciation for industrial processing and the simplicity both in design and production.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: The main focus was to reflect the way of processing both onto the design and the production cost simply.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: I would like to promote the clock to Italian market, which is the most influential in the world.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: It took a few months.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: The most important point of industrial design is how much design can be related to factories and processing. While we shared a lot of time with the factory, we have found the idea together.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: The product has been released already and it is on sale in Europe, US, and Asia now.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
: The deep insight to production processes did it.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
: Everything I saw and touched during the period when I was in Italy and UK has influenced my design a lot.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: The target customer is the one who loves beauty and logic hidden in simplicity.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: The definition of simplicity in the design makes difference.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: The production process for making this product, to carve is the source of the name.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
: The balanced combination of 3D CAD and making 3D models by hands has helped the design process a lot.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: The huge respect for production processes and simplicity is.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
: I have collaborated with an professional operator dealing skillfully with CNC milling machine and having huge knowledge about materials.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
: What the processing machine did influenced the design the most and it led cutting the cost for the design to follow it as well.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
: I tried various sizes and shapes of the nozzle of the spray gun so as not to damage the shape of the dial.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: One of the big challenges was to design the original font for the clock dials while following the restriction by the production process.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
: The authority has recommended it to the company.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
: The design process has made me learn the difficulty of making the balance to pursue both the function and the design. In this case, the most important point was how easily the time was recognized while pursuing simplicity.
