DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: The inspiration for the collection comes from Japanese geta. Geta culture lasts for centuries even with the country’s development. Japanese leaves the geta culture as their believing in life. The collection is representing the keeping in the indigenous culture and a country’s believing.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: In the early years, the original geta was invented in China Tang Dynasty and then passed on to Japan in which has handed down so far. Even if in contemporary Japan, people still love to wearing geta in their daily life. The collection represents a country's belief in cultural heritage.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: I am planning to try to see if this product would be possible to publish and produced by the factory and then release in the market.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: It takes about one month for design and nearly to months to accomplish.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: The collection represents a country's belief in cultural heritage. I create this design to appealing people’s mind on their counties cultural and historical heritage. And they could also represent the pursuit and intention of development, politics, economy, culture, and fashion of a country.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: Not yet at the point, but I am planning to have collaboration with other companies.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
: I used the combination materials of wood and leather. The wood plays the role of traditional Japanese geta.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
: Some industrial design projects with wood.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: It is targeting the fashion showcase.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: I combined it with the fashion concepts and industrial design technology.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: It’s about the Japanese culture and historical inheritance.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
: I used Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for design and made the patterns by myself.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: The wood treatment technology.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
: I did all design, pattern making and producing by myself.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
: The wood treatment is the core technology in my design. The connection methods for wood and leather pieces are one of the most important parts of this particular design.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
: Yes, the design influenced a lot other industrial design products with wood. I researched a lot on the technology for wood treatment.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: The challenge point of this design is about the wood connecting way and constructions. Moreover, it is also essential to make the wood hollow to make it lighter for carrying. The other part is about designing the digital print fabric.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
: I wish my design would be recognized by the public and market. And I also hope more people would be influenced by my design and paying more attention to appealing people for their design.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
: I learned a lot in the field of wood treatment.
