DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: Nature is unsurpassed in its uniqueness and allure. The best artworks and architectural wonders are made by observing and honoring nature's engineering thoughtfulness, trying to at least approach its perfection or to save its artistry over the centuries. In this project, that was the main target and inspiration.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: The task was to create an art object which does not copy and does not resemble anything made by mankind before. Spider web with its natural beauty and aesthetics always has attracted attention. But its beauty does not last for long. The goal was to save this glory forever and to show it in the most unusual way.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: I plan to make a full collection of my works and exhibit them.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: The project started in May 2016 in Riga, finished in January 2017.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: It was my inspiration and idea, my design was not commissioned in any way.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: For now I plan to continue to produce my works myself.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
: I wanted to create something valuable which will last, idea came to me spontaneously.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
: No, there were not.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: My target customer is a person who cherish valuable and unique artworks.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: As far as I know, no one had carried out such an idea before. It is a symbiosis between nature's beauty and power of modern technologies which help to preserve this beauty forever.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: Name of this design clearly states the main task in this artwork - to unite gold and spider web.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: Its uniqueness hides in its rarity and originality.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
: My work was made autonomously, but of course I used equipment (self bought and rented).
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
: To make this goal possible, I produced a series of specialized adaptations, including transportation boxes. Everything was made autonomously by self-bought equipment, finding new paths and new technologies. I also created a laboratory-workroom for all my experiments.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
: No, it is not.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: There were many difficulties in my task. First of all, it was necessary to find a way how to remove the spider web without ruining it and to save its unique natural composition. Secondly, I had to transport and preserve it until later processing. Thirdly, spider web had to be covered with pure 24 carat gold and the artwork had to be finished properly. Fourthly, I wanted to show golden spider webs in volumetric area, just like in nature, without gluing, without circumfusing with resin, without lamination.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
: I found information about this design competition online and decided to give it a try to see how international jury views my work.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
: I believe that everything we do, makes us learn and improves us, and gives inestimable experience.
