DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: The idea is inspired by Matrioshka dolls. Users find it inconvenient that due to portable speakers not being used at home, they find themeselves searching for it for an amount of time; sometimes they would even forget to charge it. Since most users have a home speaker, they do not need to use the portable speaker. So what other way to solve those problem is to make use of modern technology as an idea and create a cohesive design.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: This home and portable speaker is good as one but better when combined. The home speaker acts as a nesting & charging port for the portable speaker. When both speakers are combined, it amplifies the overall sound. It is a way to take advantage of the speakers' full potential.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: Teaming up with a set of skilled and talented engineers that could help produce the speakers considering strengths and weaknesses of the design.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: It took a month to design the concept from ideation phase to 3d development.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: I was inspired years ago about the idea and with the right amount of skills, I have decided to push through with the concept.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: I have plans of producing it myself with the right team and resources but open as well to future offers.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
: Music inspires me and a form of art which I consider is a part of everyone from all walks of life. Designing this kind of product is a step towards improving the way we listen to music going beyond the technology it presently uses.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
: Dieter Ram's 10 principles of good design is a treasure I hold by when designing products such as this concept.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: Music lovers
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: This design uses simple technology that has never been used with speakers. There are a lot of existing speakers that may use the basic technology (bluetooth, wifi charger & syncing) but what sets this design apart is the cohesive design applying and making use of the technology's full potential
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: Matrioshka dolls are also called Nesting dolls which is where the speakers' name came from.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
: For producing the digital or 3d product:
Solidworks
Keyshot
Adobe Photoshop
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Lightroom
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: The design of both speakers are good when used as one and better when combined. The design is cohesive and unobstrusive which lives up to its identity and aesthetics.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
: I have asked for technical advise from Mechanical and Electrical Engineers.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
: Technology plays a big role with this design especially with the functions.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
: Analytical research was done through surveys from a specific group of people and target market.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: The challenge was to create a cohesive design of both speakers. With less knowledge of modern technology, it would have left a gap in design aesthetics especially when focused on the function. To be able to change the behavior of the user in terms of organization, was a challenge as well.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
: I believe that the quality of work and design serves an international recognition.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
: I hve learned to push my potential and further improving my design and problem solving skills.
