DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: We wanted to create a light, graceful, almost transparent, but bright and defiant chandelier, which doesn’t have any analogues. The biggest inspire for us are Antonio Gaudi’s works.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: Our main target in developing this chandelier was an aspiration to create an unusual chandelier, which isn’t similar to any other big chandeliers. It used to be unique design, very light, air-like, but filled all space.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: We hope to find partners, which are interested in our work and create more interesting and scale projects.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: To develop the main concept we required two months. But this project continued to improving during its production. We modeled the general view of chandelier already having real components in our hands.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: This order we received from our private client after we suggested him to consider our several projects of big chandeliers.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: This design idea is completely invented by us and only we use this idea.
If this work arouses interest, we will be happy to cooperate with buyers or manufacturers.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
: We are interested in creating lighting from the stainless steel and crystal, which have interesting design, so long. In order to they blend with other objects, which we create.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
: In our opinion this design is unique. We are its creators.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: This project was created for a private house.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: The main distinctive feature – it is completely made of stainless steel and it is handmade. Its construction and design allowed us to make a chandelier, which weight is only 340 kg, though its height is 7.4 m and its diameter is 1.8 m.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: The chandelier “Nereida” without doubt is sea goddess, bright as a coral reef and glamorous with its weirdness
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
: We used Autocad and Adobe Photoshop for creating this project and to see the first
visualization of the project
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: “Nereida” – is a quantity of unique ideas. All details from stainless steel have a color of the noble gold, thanks our unique technology. This color isn’t static, but changes its shadow depending from illumination in the room. We didn’t use the suspensions for chandeliers to decorate plafonds, but we used jewelry beads with different colors and sizes. These beads are selected with color of stained-glass windows, which are present in the interior. The light sources are our unique invention. They don’t only give a light, but also they are artistic elements.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
: This project is only built on the base of our knowledge, skills and experience. We have the higher technical education, which is sufficient for realizing similar projects.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
: New technologies allowed us make a large chandelier with very bright lighting, but with low electricity consumption.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
: We explored characteristics of stainless steel, which is creating the color envelope on the surface during specific impacts. Also we learned features of LED work for creating artistic lighting sources.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: The main problem was impossibility to pick up and test the construction because of its big size. Actually we saw this chandelier when it was already picked up. The result inspired us.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
: We took a part in the competition to people from other countries were able to get acquainted with our work and to we could make new projects with them.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
: This project gave us the confidence that we can develop and produce sophisticated enough art objects. We learned how to use our creativity and experience better. We learned how to make different colors of stainless steel objects. Now we can make the light sources in the form of art products.
