DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: The A Series’ seemingly simple design is meant to showcase the richness of the amazing materials. Ultra-dense African Blackwood and Swedish high alloy steel seamlessly join in the knife handle to create a luxurious, responsive tactile experience. This clean, minimal design allows the quality of material to be the main focus of the knife set.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: We wanted to get the best from the best. The materials we used in the A Series allowed us to really push the limits of our quality even further. This knife set taught us how to make better knives and has pushed us to keep elevating the quality of all our knives.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: Like all of our products this is an in-house design. We own all our designs and to ensure quality we manufacture and currently distribute all our knives as well.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: This set is designed for the home chef that needs professional caliber knives that match and elevate the aesthetics of their own purposefully designed kitchens. We see knife sets as a kind of furniture for the kitchen, they need to look great, they need to connect with the user and they most importantly need to function excellently.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: Quality. These a premier caliber professional culinary tools. They look amazing, but they perform perfectly. With an incredibly sharp Asian style edge these knives also have amazing edge retention so they stay sharp longer.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: The handles on these knives are incredibly difficult to manufacture. Being able to perfectly shape the incredibly dense wood to the full tang of the blade takes a lot of time and skill. These handles can seem simple, but it is a purposeful and well crafted simple.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
: We have focused a lot on getting good data and doing in depth research as far as what materials to use and how to process the materials to get the best qualities from them. There were countless tests and iterations to find the perfect blade thickness, knife weight and handle curvature so these knives would perform as well as they looked.
