DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: The intent of the concept was to be a modern sculptor which creates an aesthetic movement of the flame. The luxury shape was motivated by the existing studies on positive emotional impacts of rounded shapes.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: I wanted to combine the functionality and performance with aesthetics and design idea. Furthermore, additional focus has been made on the emotional value of the product.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: The award winning design provides me with great opportunities to introduce my work as a designer locally and internationally.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: It took me around 6 months for this particular design concept and modeling design details.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: It was an inspiration. The particular concept for the lamp shape was inspired by the original source of light and a most important discovery of humanity - fire. Also, using of innovative light sources combined with a luxurious design was another attraction to my attention.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
: It went on a research process on the issues related to powerful lights, minimal energy consumption, emotional power of the shapes, materials, colors and aesthetics.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
: This is entirely my own work.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: With its modern design the Flame lamp a luxury jewel attracting the attention in every interior design, residential or public.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: The unique shape.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: The name comes from the shape, which was inspired by the flame of the fire.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
: For this particular project I used Rhinoceros, Keyshot and Photoshop.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: Flame is a new generation lamp. In it laser light sources are build-in that are used more intensively in the industry and are characterized by the light intensity and a minimal use of electricity. This, together with the elegant design is the starting point of the project. The stylized shape provokes a simulated flame effect and creates a sense of comfort and luxury. The materials for the metal and glass body are fully recyclable, which, together with low energy consumption ranks it among the top of the environmental friendly products.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
: The study for the design of the lamp went off in three directions. The first direction was to find the best and most innovative light source currently using minimal energy and providing maximum light. Undoubtedly, these are laser lights gaining popularity recently with their powerful LED and laser projection that are more efficient than simple LED lights. The second direction was to find an inspiration for the shape of the lamp that can be used in residential interiors. Because the original source of light and a most important discovery of people is the fire, it is used as a basic form of this lamp. The main idea of the body of the lamp is based on styling of a flame of fire. The third direction is based on a study of the emotional impact caused by shapes of products. It is known that the first impression of a product may not get a second chance, so the design has a specific purpose. In recent years there has been a growing interest in the general area of design and emotions. Based on an extensive research of resent literature and experimental analysis made during my PhD study it was concluded that the shape defined as “Direction movement” evoked intensively pleasant emotions. The main characteristics of this form category consist of using of curved and rounded shaped elements that represent it on the plane and space. The final design decision was made after a combination in the results in these three directions.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
: I improved my abilities to represent my work, the involved in my design ideas.
