DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: To inspire fellow artists and share the feeling of the need to be motivated and inspired to improve ourselves everyday.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: As a professional in the creative industry, our designs go wrong, your ideas don’t get noticed, the people you trusted let you down, products fail – in these tough times there is nothing you can do besides keeping faith alive and moving forward. The best way to be positive and stay focused on my work is by going through some inspirational quotes. So I thought why not design a book for myself and my design team that we could refer to when we are having a bad day at office.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: I would like to convert this into a yearly calendar with a quote for everyday.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: I wanted something to inspire my design team including myself. Something that I could look into when I was not feeling motivated or inspired.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: I have plans to lease the production rights of this design.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: People from the Creative Industry.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: There is no similar book that has creative quotes that focuses more on the design and illustration of the message.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
: Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: Page Layout, Typography and Unique Design across 100 different quotes.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
: The research for this project was purely done on the internet. The main objective was to find out the most viral/most shared inspirational quotes on the internet. Sites such as twitter, facebook, pinterest and instagram were used for the research with help of hashtags and the most shared/liked images/designs were collected and analyzed. It was understood that quotes that were simple, colorful and easy on the eye with a visual that depicts the quote or the message were be to shared more that quotes were that was plain text. So it was understood that users are most likely to be inspired by something that gives a positive message; while depicting it visually gives it a higher chance to have it remembered. It was also found out that were not much well design physical/digital books available for purchase or in libraries that consists of inspirational quote in a similar nature of this project.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: The hardest parts were to make each and every quote look unique and different from one another while choosing the best typefaces was also a great challenge to portray the correct message as typefaces have the power to change the complete outlook of a simple message. Another challenge was to make the layout/design of this book unique to other books available. The layout follows a horizontal and narrow layout that helps differentiate it from the rest. All quotes and visuals had to be based on this layout which had its limitations in terms of vertical space for the quotes.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
: I got very good feedback from peers and clients and thought it stood a chance as it was something different.
