DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: I should make something good-looking, useful, ergonomic, compact, easy to use with combine of flowing lines and sharp-cut outlines.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: I wanted to make the simulator to imitate working process maximum realistic; to achive that I put the whole cabin on a platform in a way the cabin can rotate to make an effect of motion; panoramic screen adds to this effect.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: This project minded to be a concept, but as leading experts and engineers of the company the design was made for highly praised the simulator, after winning the award there`s an opportunity this concept will be brought to life.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: This design was a part of my semester work at the university, in fact all the process took about three-and-a-half months.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: It was commissioned as a half-year task.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: Maybe it will be produced by a company it was made for, though it`s not for sure as other companies were interested in the design too.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: Target customer is cargo major companies, who always use forklift, so they need forklift simulators to train beginner forklift drivers to operate the machine and to check their skills.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: The design has strongly different shape and operating principle; also modern technologies are used.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: Dedicated device is what forklift simulator really is, it`s a machine with special training programs and specific function.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: When trainee driver operates the simulator, it arises sensation that he drives a real forklift; the simulator was designed so, the sensation is very strong.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
: When designing I was consulted and helped by my design teachers - Elena Akkuratova and Leonid Filatov, who are practitioners in the designing field.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
: The research was made at ergonomics: I had to ascertain which distances between object parts are appropriate, to ensure that all the object parts fit together and the object will be easy to use. To the effect I made a scaled human model and several different scaled simulator models to try some variant and choose the best one.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: One of the hardest parts was to find analogues for inspiration, that were not only good-looking, but useful. It appeared there isn`t a lot of them.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
: I noticed an advertising poster the university I`m studying at, uploaded my design and managet to get a nomination ticket.
