DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: The principle of our design was to harmonize a chaise longue seat design,
our idea was the continuity of the lines of our sitting and inspiration was the sinuosity, throughout their perfect faces for the 6 sides of our design (top, bottom, front, back, and both sides).
It was a daily work with all the staff at Be & Bo to achieve the existing piece, with a non doubt result.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: The main focus of this design was to achieve a comfortable and plastic image from all the points of view, gathering all aspects of ideal and perfect image, it was what we wanted to achieve.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: Our plans are to offer our design to an product design international publishing house , with international distribution, and manufacture by our staff and collaborators.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: This design concept took us out about 3 weeks as to formal concept refers, 15 days more of further virtualizations that carries us to the next step, 6 weeks were necessary to make models of our design. We followed the most stressful point :manufacture ,testing resistance and constructive details, painting treatments and foam system for upholstery.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: It was a piece we wanted to design and from the first sketches we forecasted that it would be a beautiful design and although it was not easy nor cheap,we knew that it would overcome our most appealing design until the date. It has not been a custom design, it is totally our inspiration.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: Our design is not producing or is being used by any company, our idea is that a company specializing in product design, might edit our design and product.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
: The need to get a differentiated seat out of what is done so far. This object object, like chairs has a saturation of models, which add up and continue. Without any other purpose to become something more than a seat for framing.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
: Our generation from design school and its way of influencing and know all the myths and classic design world we see all kinds of classic and not so classic novelties, with all kinds of finishings such as steel tube, aluminum, plastic and others.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: Our design target customer is people who let themselves be surprised by good news and for those who like good design, and are not indifferent to design.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: The difference with other designs, it is that is handmade, understanding that behind each of the processes is a skilled person.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: LA, Chaise Longue, once made our design and speaking without the need to name it, we decided to rename it with the article LA provided but with a coma, emphasising the typology seat.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
: We used the programs: Autocad autodesk, solidworks, 3ds max
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: The smoothness of the curves that make this design a piece worth to be seen, this continuity of each curve makes the piece an exciting piece.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
: We collaborate with our specialists in aluminum metal structures and processes of transformation: Llorigrafic
We cooperate with treatment specialist surface preparation and finishing. Ph. Dr. Jose Antonio Ortega.
We assist businesses paint treatments Apiliso
We work with CUSO, a company for upholstery
Special mention for Amaya Ortega, assistant English language translation.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
: The particular technological process, always directed by a specialist has a technology called, handmade, in all its processes, although it could introduce technology to the fullest, although the initial investment costs would be much higher. From automated curved, curved and continuous welds, laser and wáter cutting processes of Xmm thick plate and assembly of each sheet.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
: Further investigation was made to the designs resulting from possible materials to be used in this design, aluminum, abs, fiberglass, Rotomolding, rigid polyurethane injection
Determined that all other processes required a higher investment initially, but less than the mass and industrialized production costs.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: The challenges came when we had performed all the pieces by duplicate and obtain a 99.9% similarity in their replica since it is a symmetrical piece in the x axis, the replica of their curves would give a result of succesful appropriate design , then the process would lead to the junction of the faces.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
: We read news platforms industrial design products, such as DESIGN BOOM, about this competition and we decided to compete.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
: I learned to know as the Aluminum and its proceses, the need for neatness and cleanliness when working it and welding, complications with less than 1.5mm thickness, polishing and cleaning of Aluminum in the welding points by ICT, as the manufacturing system works by casting of Aluminum.
