DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
HR : The main idea is to bring the diners close to natural elements and help them to reduce negative feelings of exhausting city life. It is inspired from Taro Leaf structure and the design intent is to make a fusion of floor vase and dining table.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
HR : The main focus was developing the leaf form to serve two functions - Vase and Dining Table
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
HR : I would like to commercialize it.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
HR : I designed this particular concept to bring in the concept of user experience in furniture design. I decided to pursuit an inspiration.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
HR : I intent to produce my work myself.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
HR : The exhausting city life and less contact of people with nature in urban area inspired me to design Humming Tree.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
HR : Urban families and restaurants
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
HR : This design has unique form of leaf in three dimension and apart from that the human sized arrangement in the table makes it unique.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
HR : I named it Humming tree because the table will be used for arranging human sized tall branches of trees, leaves etc. mimicking a tree.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
HR : Solidworks, Keyshot and Ansys.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
HR : The 3 dimensional leaf form with veins supporting the table top and the fusion of two functions that is a floor vase and a dining table giving a new experience to diners.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
HR : Technology will play role during manufacturing the unique form.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
HR : The challenged was the stability of the table. In order to obtain stability, a little leg was added which remains hidden after assembly.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
HR : I wanted to see how good my design is by comparing with other designs.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
HR : Designing Humming Tree was a good experience. I have improved my structural analysis skills and also developing the a form from my inspiration source.
