DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: My idea for this rocking chair was to create a small and cosy island. The look should be soft, pleasant and inviting. The item shouldn't have any corners only curves - harmonious curves. He is intended for relaxing areas like living rooms, lounges and private zones.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: I wanted to develop a slim rack without ornamentations and additional constructions. The minimized one pipe construction should be immediately visible and the materials should be classic and lasting - metal and leather.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: To find a company which will produce and distribute my chair.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: It took 3 month to complete this design concept.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: My challenge was to develop a whole collection of chairs and armchairs based on my own rack system, according to classic metal pipe chairs.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: I plan to sell or lease my product.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
: Ambition and the memory of the rocking chair of my father.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: Everybody who likes to swing in a cosy rocking chair.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: It is a compact chair with a smart design, reduced to a minimum of construction.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: The name - xifix - is my pseudonym - Juergen Goetzmann - alias xifix - the one man group. xifix2base - is my second rack-system. rocking-chair-one - is my first rocking chair. These working titles are a system to catalogue my designs. Later in production and sale I would like to call this chair bugsy.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
: Wire and plasticine.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: The most unique aspect is the endless pipe construction. So I created a loop form, which achieves the stability of the rack.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
: To reduce the technology to a minimum.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
: The ergonomics of the chair was adapted to the physiognomy of an average person.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: To form the one-pipe-rack with a loop that matches the ergonomics of man - under consideration of the esthetics and the feasibility.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
: I want to find a company which will manufacture and sell my designs.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
: I still have a lot of fun designing one-pipe-chair-racks.
