DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: As it was a multi-transportation hub proposed through sea-shore track, i was really inspired by natural water element itself. and its a "pebble" were we see near sea shore. its a natural fact that stone turns to a smooth surface pebble because of it surroundings and climatic facts. were i have used it in a technical way.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: My intention was to produce a innovative transportation system to our nation for a better connectivity and development.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: I ll try to send the design report to the Indian government to put a positive thought towards the nation.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: It took two months to develop this particular concept.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: I firmly believe that one day the everlasting changes of our mutable planet will take us to live in close contact with water. So from the beginning, my focus has always on this theme.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: I dint think anything about this yet. but now i feel i should sell the production rights for a good development.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
: Each of my aim is to let man live and think in a world that seems to be unexplored, My project in fact, are not just simple building lying on water, but something beyond it. It come to life taking their form from organic and sinuous shapes, and live taking advantage of innovative tech. The sea is my endless source of inspiration. All mega projects represent an aspect of this magic world making man’s dream of living on the sea come true.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
: Burj Al Arab , Dubai . was my reference design which helped me a lot to tackle the technical part of the design.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: Government of India.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: I think the shape , concept and the function of the design.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: The aerodynamic form itself sustain the climatic condition and gives a dramatic effect of floating in the sea. hence it is named as Floating hub.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
: Autocad , 3ds Max , Vray , Corel draw.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: This innovative project has been designed for the Public mass transportation. It is the first submerged hub as of now in Kerala. Like a big pebble stretching out from the land into the sea and extends horizontally 60m away from the land. This Unique Building design has been worked out to represent an iconic structure in Kerala.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
: Yes definitely. This Building have been designed for mass public were the project is composed with a High-speed rail station, a Metro-rail Station, Commercial Spaces, Recreational and Cultural Areas in different levels, within a single roof.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
: Transport plays an important role of socio-economic development of any region. Quality of life greatly depend upon quality of roads. The quality of transport system in Kerala needs much improvement. Although road transport dominates the transportation scenario in the state, people depend on railways for long haul transport needs. 63% of the vehicles are Two wheeler. Around 5lakh vehicles are now added on the state roads every year. A major chunk of this vehicle stock is found in urban region causing traffic congestion. Kerala stands 3rd in road accident risk index and on an average around 11people of crushed under the wheels on our roads everyday and over 100 people are disabled for life. Transport contributes a major share of carbon emissions and there by a challenge to climate change. The substantial strengths of the railways and inland water transport in minimizing such emissions per passenger/tones kilometer traffic performed including their cost efficiency for long distance.
VISION- The projected/visualized outcome. The project has been designed visualizing a“Modern, economical and safe transportation system which connects all the growth centric areas of the state of Kerala. it also fulfills the requirement of providing quick access to the people residing in the state by 2025”
MISSION- The trend of urbanization, land use changes, the growth plans of different sectors of the economy , the inherent strength and weaknesses of different modes and transportation system with special reference to their sustainability, efficiency, employment generation, productivity, resource and social cost etc. will be taken into account for “Inter-modal planning”.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: Exterior fluid form which has to incorporated with in the interior defined spaces.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
: After winning 6th place for florence expo - International degree bases, 2012 .... I felt my design is worth submitting international award competition.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
: I learned and improved my patience, hard work and Dedication towards my design works.
DI: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
: No, thank you for giving an opportunity.
