DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
LD : The ERA Digital Dental Clinic is more than a clinic—it’s a futuristic experience inspired by digital innovation and the golden ratio. The design focuses on hygiene, functionality, and aesthetics, using materials like Corian for its curves and easy maintenance, premium metal furniture, and touch-free technology. Every detail creates a clean, modern space that invites mindfulness and reflects the future of healthcare.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
LD : My main focus was to create a space that balances cutting-edge technology with comfort and hygiene. I wanted to design an environment that feels welcoming and futuristic, while meeting the practical needs of a dental clinic. The goal was to achieve harmony between function and aesthetics, making both patients and staff feel at ease.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
LD : We’ve been invited by French media specializing in clinics to publish the project, and we’ve received several exciting proposals to showcase the design internationally. I look forward to sharing this work more broadly and continuing to innovate in healthcare design.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
LD : The concept design took about 2 to 3 months to complete.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
LD : This design was commissioned by the clinic owner, who wanted a futuristic space that combines advanced technology with a welcoming atmosphere. The goal was to create an innovative environment reflecting the future of dental care.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
LD : No, there were no other designs or designers that influenced this project.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
LD : What sets this design apart is its seamless integration of advanced digital technology with a highly functional and hygienic environment. The use of innovative materials like Corian, combined with touch-free fixtures and a futuristic aesthetic, creates a unique, welcoming space unlike typical dental clinics.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
LD : The name 'ERA Digital Dental Clinic' was entirely my client’s idea. It reflects both the digital era in dentistry and the owner’s initials—Dr. Ekaterina Radoslavova. I think it’s the perfect combination for a successful and memorable brand.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
LD : I used a combination of technical drawing, 3D modeling, visualization, as well as samples and moodboards throughout the project.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
LD : The most unique aspect of my design is the innovative use of Corian, which enables seamless, curved shapes that create a futuristic and inviting atmosphere. This material is not only visually striking but also extremely hygienic and easy to maintain, which is crucial for a dental clinic. Additionally, the integration of touch-free technology and carefully selected durable materials enhances both functionality and user experience, setting the space apart from typical healthcare environments.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
LD : I collaborated with a diverse team of specialists, including technical experts for installations such as lighting, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. We also worked closely with ergonomics consultants to ensure the space is comfortable and efficient for both staff and patients. This teamwork was essential to achieve the perfect balance of functionality and innovative design.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
LD : Technology plays a central role in this design, integrating advanced digital systems and touch-free operations to create a modern, efficient, and user-friendly clinic.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
LD : Yes, my design was guided by data and analytical research. I studied patient flow, ergonomics, and clinical workflow to optimize the layout and functionality, ensuring the space meets real user needs efficiently.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
LD : Some of the main challenges were technical complexities, engineering requirements, and constraints related to time and budget. Balancing these factors while maintaining design quality was demanding but rewarding.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
LD : I believe it’s important to share high-quality design with the world and to see how we compare internationally. Participating in competitions helps keep motivation high and encourages continuous growth.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
LD : I improved my communication skills and learned to better coordinate with diverse teams, balancing creative vision with technical requirements.
