DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
ACDR : The main intention of my design is to bring comfort, peace and tranquility to people, through an organic design that refers to nature.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
ACDR : Simplicity and elegance for me are basic and inseparable concepts. So, I always start from this principle to create my design with the intention of awakening feelings and sensations that go beyond reason.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
ACDR : The Umma armchair is part of the Umma collection, which is made up of ten pieces and is in the prototype development phase. I am very happy because the collection will be launched soon with an award for its main piece, which gave its name to the collection, the Umma armchair.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
ACDR : Since de first scratch, about a year.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
ACDR : For some time I had been looking for nautical rope furniture with a cleaner design, which would fit well both in interior decoration and for external areas. From this search, the Umma armchair was born, which gave rise to the collection of the same name.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
ACDR : The Umma collection is in the prototype development phase. The collection is being produced by the company Sulvimes, which will commercialize it.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
ACDR : The search for a cleaner and elegant design for indoor outdoor furniture.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
ACDR : I love Philippe Starck, Karim Hashid and Oscar Niemeyer
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
ACDR : The elegant curved and continuous lines makes Umma outdoor indoor Armchair different from other products in the same category.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
ACDR : The term Umma meaning "people" or "community" was often related to the Arabic word umm, or "mother". Umma in this case is the mother of all, my first designed piece, from my first collection, which will also be the first signed collection produced by the company Sulvimes.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
ACDR : Pencil, paper and wine. Later autocad, sketchup and lumion.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
ACDR : The desire to bring a unique coastal vibe to any setting.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
ACDR : Laila Dutra made the imagens to me.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
ACDR : Technology makes it easy to get the angles and proportions of the initial design right before the project materializes, saving time and resources.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
ACDR : Yes, I researched the outdoor furniture market and found that in 2022 there was a 225% increase, according to WGSN, in demand for this type of furniture.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
ACDR : People's difficulty in believing in something new, different from what exists, with a value proposition that goes beyond.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
ACDR : I believe in what I do with all my heart.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
ACDR : The desire to see my ideas materialized led me to persist and move forward.
DI: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
ACDR : To achieve any goal, it is necessary to have will, determination and a little lack of common sense.
