DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
PY : I envision the design to exude a futuristic appearance. Just imagine yourself strolling through the bustling streets of a cyberpunk-inspired city, with this watch adorning your wrist. It's not just a timepiece; it's a glimpse into the future. When you wear it, you're embracing a piece of the future, effortlessly blending in with the technologically advanced world around you.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
PY : The essence of cyberpunk aesthetics plays a crucial role in this design, while also providing the user with the freedom to select various colors that complement different scenes and outfits. It strikes a balance between embracing the cyberpunk vibe and offering personalization options to suit individual preferences and styles.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
PY : There is a possibility that this design could pave the way for a series of forward-thinking designs in the future. It might be a good idea to consider incorporating more customization options to enhance user experience. The extent of customization, however, will depend on how smartwatch technology evolves over time. We'll have to keep an eye on the advancements and adapt accordingly.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
PY : Initially, it began as an experimental watch face design, serving as a testing ground. Gradually, I ventured into exploring different color schemes and layouts, continuously expanding the possibilities. As ideas flowed in and out, a distinct cyberpunk vibe started to emerge, capturing my attention. Nurturing this sensation became a two-week endeavor, dedicating time and effort to refine the watch face's overall ambiance.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
PY : Watches are commonly worn to keep track of the current time. However, my vision is to transform this experience into a glimpse of the future. I aspire for individuals to feel a sense of leadership and anticipation when they wear a watch, allowing them to think ahead of time and stay one step ahead. The goal is to create a watch that evokes the feeling of being at the forefront of progress and encourages forward-thinking.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
PY : It's really amazing to see a company taking an interest in someone's work. If a company were to appreciate and consider buying my design, it would be such an honor for me. It's incredibly validating to know that my work has caught their attention and holds value in their eyes.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
PY : I aspire to see my designs become part of my daily life.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
PY : It primarily stems from my own curiosity and experimentation with ideas.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
PY : Everyone.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
PY : The crucial element is the exhilarating feeling of being ahead of the curve, thinking and anticipating beyond the confines of the current moment. It's about embracing a mindset that transcends the ordinary and propels us into a realm of forward-thinking and innovation.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
PY : The concept is quite straightforward: the "Cyber" element draws inspiration from cyberpunk aesthetics, while the notion of "Element" signifies a connection to the future. It's a fusion that combines the edginess of cyberpunk with the essence of what lies ahead.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
PY : Adobe Photoshop, Facer, and WatchMaker app.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
PY : It effectively conveys the sensation of being ahead of one's time.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
PY : I managed the entire process, from conceptualization to deployment on the watch, entirely on my own.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
PY : The focus of this design is not primarily on the technological aspects of its development. The Facer and WatchMaker apps handle those aspects effectively.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
PY : Not much on the research. When the ideas come, just do it.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
PY : To achieve a well-organized and precise dial, one needs to strategize the arrangement of information indicators while eliminating unnecessary elements. A key aspect is to leverage the dots as a primary element, creating a captivating cyberpunk vibe.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
PY : There's a mix of confidence and a touch of uncertainty, but I'm eager to give it a shot nonetheless.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
PY : The principle of "less is more" is a golden rule in design, and through creating this watch face, I've come to appreciate it on a deeper level.
DI: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
PY : At times, it's best to trust your instincts and go with the flow when ideas keep flowing in. There's no need to overthink things. Allow your ideas to guide you and simply enjoy the journey along the way.
