DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
JL : The main principles that are the basis for interior design for me are always a combination of three components:
- the uniqueness and individuality of the interior owners, their vision of the world, life principles and philosophy
- ergonomics of space, comfort of use and compliance with all the necessary functions
- harmony of proportions, materials, colors
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
JL : We wanted to create a unique space that would reflect the main principles of the brand, namely the unity of the soul, body and mind. The brand pays great attention to the ecology of the planet and tells customers how important it is to understand that we are part of nature and the future of our planet depends on us. That is why a small piece of nature appeared in the center of a large megapolis.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
JL : We continue our cooperation with the clothing brand, creating new spaces for them and supporting all the projects that we have already implemented together. The world does not stand still, everything changes and of course in the showroom there are always some changes that need to be presented correctly. So now there are several brands that share the philosophy of the LaTrika brand and they are settled in the same showroom. It was necessary to come up with new space for placing things and solve other issues. And it happens all the time, so yes, we support our project and plan to do so in the future
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
JL : In fact, we did not have much time to think, everything was very fast. Clients set us the goal - the showroom was supposed to open in two and a half months and we did it. It should be noted that we have been working with the brand for a long time and we know them quite well. This allowed us to reduce the design time, as the concept was accepted immediately and we started working on the drawings. Construction work was carried out at the construction site at the same time, sometimes we discussed changes in the process of implementing the project. It was a challenge! And we are so delighted to see the result!
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
JL : The LaTrica brand, in addition to developing and designing clothes, also produces films about the nature of its country. They shoot new collections in carefully selected locations. They choose incredibly breathtaking places that need the attention of the public. For example, they filmed one of the collections in the forest, which was destroyed due to human carelessness. Thanks to this, many people learn about what they do not talk about on television. It was these films about nature that inspired the creation of the design concept for this space.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
JL : As we have mentioned earlier, Latrika is our regular customer, which we are very happy about. We have done more than one project in the place and we will be happy to continue our cooperation. The owner of the brand have approached us with a request for design and we have come up with it
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
JL : Nature is the designer who influenced the development of this project.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
JL : This project is designed for residents of a large megapolis, who are reluctant to get out into nature and forget that we are all part of it. They are chained in stone jungles and they need a little shake, a reminder
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
JL : This design is the embodiment of the LaTrika brand philosophy. This means that it is distinguished by the fact that he, like no one else, describes the brand and reveals it. This cannot be done by another design.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
JL : The name of the project is the brand name of the company. It means "Knitwear for her" in Italian. The history of the company's name goes back to the beginning of the brand's journey, when all clothes were only for women and only from knitwear. Now the brand also presents men's collections, and nowadays it works not only with knitted fabrics, but also with other types of fabrics.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
JL : As a basis, we took a plain background, on which clothes would look most attractive. It was also a symbol of purity. We added natural stone textures and added accent elements such as the moon and the Sun. The moon greets guests at the entrance, and the luminous ceiling in the second hall symbolizes the light of the Sun through a hole in the ceiling. The final accent element is greenery, which adds life to this space. And a huge column of cast iron seems to hold the vault of heaven. It is also a symbol of nature, despite its clear outlines, because metal is one of the natural elements and the texture of the column demonstrates it in the best possible way.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
JL : The unique aspect of the design, I’d rather say, is how well we felt the clients and how accurately we were able to convey their inner world. It's like an oil portrait, but made in the interior view. You can feel the philosophy of the brand just by entering this interior
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
JL : We worked with a landscape design company, since the placement of plants in the interior requires special knowledge.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
JL : Live plants were used, as well as supplying a specialized lighting and irrigation system. There was also special stabilized moss employed, strawberry plants, driftwood and large stones. Given the age of the building, the use of these items had weight implications and as a result a thorough floor load calculation was carried out.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
JL : The purpose of our design is to draw the attention of society to the fact that people are part of nature. We hope that this main goal has been achieved and that's what will influence other designers who will be able to concentrate on this issue more and more.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
JL : The main challenges encountered were as follows: - short deadlines for design and implementation - The need to take into account all the technical nuances for the placement of live plants - the need to perform the calculation of loads on the floor - remote implementation (all architectural supervision processes were carried out online, it was the first time the design teams visited the interior after its implementation).
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
JL : Actually,we tend to take part in competitions every year, this allows you to get acquainted with the work of designers around the world, assess your professional level and find new goals to achieve.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
JL : In fact, we have learned a lot about designing indoor green areas, many complex systems and the necessary measures to maintain plants.
