DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
MSEK : This product has been inspired from the Pharaonic symbol of balance, strength and reincarnation Djed. The Djed was raised on the coldest, darkest nights of the year as a reminder of to reconnect to the light of righteousness.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
MSEK : I want to achieve a balanced design that is aesthetically and functionally successful
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
MSEK : find the perfect way to market and develop my business, because it is worth it
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
MSEK : The idea started in 2018 and was first exhibited in October 2018 then again in November 2021 both in Cairo Design Award. Location: Cairo, Egypt.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
MSEK : I decided to seek the Egyptian civilization because of its inspiring stories
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
MSEK : I intend to produce my own work
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
MSEK : My love for my country and my deep love for the ancient Egyptian civilization
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
MSEK : Interior designer and dealer
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
MSEK : ATUN , He is the god announced by King Akhenaten, and the sun god was considered the unified god who has no partner and the light of the Aten benefits all races, and represents the Aten in the form of a sun disk, with its rays that end with human hands, to give life and prosperity to the royal family
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
MSEK : I start from drawing the sketch, Passing through AutoCAD program then 3D MAX and CNC milling, In the production process
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
MSEK : Atun aims to integrate the aesthetics of ancient Egyptian culture and modern Egyptian identity, resulting in distinctive products that represent Egyptian culture and have a positive impact on consumers
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
MSEK : I had an inspiration in mind, and I implemented it
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
MSEK : It helps me to process difficult parts of the product.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
MSEK : The challenge was to design new lighting products that is shaped to be related to the Ancient Egyptian Civilization and the integration between the cultural design and emotional design.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
MSEK : I decided to participate because of the importance of this competition and its great role in supporting us in the event of winning, as it is a famous award in the designers industry.
