DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
MY : The experience with COVID-19 has given humanity the seeds of innovation in many fields. Before the problems are solved and the seeds are forgotten, we have created a list of concepts and ideas for future research.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
MY : Utilize the seeds of innovation gained from the COVID-19 experience as a list of concepts and ideas for future research.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
MY : To put the seeds of innovation into practice and innovate.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
MY : It took about a year from research visits to various laboratories to holding workshops using Innovation Seed List.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
MY : During the coronavirus pandemic, we all came up with a project to deal with the coronavirus and implemented it.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
MY : During the coronavirus pandemic, we considered the best ideas and actions to take.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
MY : The created communication is for the general public who are not familiear with technology.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
MY : What makes this work stand out is that it incorporates an easy-to-understand and user-friendly UX (illustrations and list viewing functionality) for an online list.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
MY : I named it the "List of Innovation Seeds" to be as clear and direct as possible.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
MY : D3.js was used to provide an easy-to-use list browsing function.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
MY : Illustrations are used to explain each innovation seed.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
MY : For this project, we collaborated with a number of research labs at the University of Tokyo, as well as with popular children's book illustrators.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
MY : We were able to create a great, enjoyable UX by using a program that specializes in visualization.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
MY : We did design research into collective intelligence to do interdisciplinary collaboration.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
MY : Other works have won the A'design award in the past.
