We had the distinct pleasure to interview award winning designer Lichen Ding about their original and creative Guesthouse design work. Lichen Ding is an award-winning architectural designer, that makes our world a better place with their original guesthouse works.
Lichen Ding ("LD") answered Design Interview ("DI") questions about their award-winning work The MeetNi Guesthouse. Interview questions prepared by Frank Scott.
LD : The design is taken from the memory points of the classical and traditional architectural style, and the contemporary design language is used to extend the landscape in the interior space and present a natural symbiosis. Based on the natural and simple style, the use of natural wood and the full use of light to express the outside Naturally integrated into the space, creating a natural returning atmosphere.

LD : Generally, customers trust our intuition and judgment, and are directly entrusted by customers to design with full power. As the person in charge of this project, I personally want to let guests experience and feel something from the design.
LD : This is a customized design for customers, we hope and is the only one that meets local characteristics
LD : Through the perception of the local scenery and folk culture
LD : Business reception, travel and vacation, family and children
LD : Take the local stone and log as the materials of environment and furniture design, and use the local folk hand-made bamboo weaving and linen printing and dyeing to make the soft decoration of lighting, cushion and curtain. The decorative fabric also meticulously uses the natural straw weaving and hand-made solid wood round carving works. The owners and designers carefully create such a very natural, quiet, comfortable and elegant environment.
LD : The MeetNi, which means "Find you meet you" in Chinese, wants people to feel the same atmosphere when they first see her.

LD : Only a few types of materials, simple craftsmanship, lower cost, sufficient natural light during the day and charming light and shadow atmosphere

LD : The art pendants in the atrium of the corridor are like leaves in the sun, and one side of the corridor is like a bamboo path, attracting people to enter. The wood grid screen runs through the connecting space vertically from top to bottom; from the hollowed out, you can see the landscape like the outdoor garden, and the inner and outer layers interact naturally. The space itself has been expressed here. The space temperament makes people feel quiet, soft and implicit.
LD : Use modern design methods to metaphor Chinese traditions, and use the oriental context to create courtyard culture. The traditional garden frame landscaping method continues the natural atmosphere. The wooden fence between the virtual and the real has a certain spatial delimitation function, but it also allows the breath of each space to communicate. On the basis of respecting the natural scenery, harmoniously integrate the living needs of modern people into the local nature and culture.
LD : The original building of this project is two buildings connected. After the merger, the middle aisle will be dark and dull, which will not feel good to hotel guests. After thinking about the transformation, we opened a five-story hollow light well to promote natural daylight to the aisles on each floor. This is also a highlight of this design.
LD : After a period of understanding on the competition website, I deeply felt the charm of the competition. The page pictures on the website were beautiful, and the rules and fees of the competition made people feel friendly.
LD : I think in our career, in addition to doing some business projects, it will be more meaningful to participate in social projects. Otherwise, our career can only make the world look better, better looking and more useful. That’s all.
