DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
SYC : the idea came from a lantern i made with my dad during my childhood.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
SYC : designing a concept that could create a 3D feel, with the idea usable on any kind of patterns.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
SYC : I would like to design more patterns using this concept.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
SYC : few months.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
SYC : I couldn't spot this design concept anywhere I went or in any retail shops, therefore, I had the urge to bring my idea to life.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
SYC : I'm open to collaborations if there comes an opportunity. I will definitely consider.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
SYC : It's been spinning in my head for quite sometime where I do not see this concept at any retail stores.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
SYC : Women of any age.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
SYC : Usability. The introduction of a new way of configuring an earring.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
SYC : I initially wanted to name it Floral Lanterns but then needed to revise it to Floral SY which is my initials.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
SYC : The center bars I added to make a 3D feel. With this concept, I can create any patterns that could be viewed from all angles.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
SYC : I did work with a jewelry manufacturer overseas to bring my idea to life.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
SYC : Definitely the Visual enhancement.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
SYC : my research includes online research, travelling to other countries, and of course researching locally at retail shops.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
SYC : I cant draw, I normally handmade all my prototypes.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
SYC : Essentially I would like to know how good my design is and what the judges think.
