DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
XAR : One of the main idea was to stay inspired by the native Caribbean history and maintain a youthful and universal appearance. Camillet promotes an unique and artistic vision of the contemporary preservation of the environmental.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
XAR : The main focus was to impact and encourage the use of materials and textiles in the field of fashion and create new awareness and trends.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
XAR : I would like to continue my studies doing a master's degree in Art Direction and continue developing my XAR brand.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
XAR : 3 Months aprox.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
XAR : I was expressing my craft skills and my vision as a designer. As a result, I can express how much I love my culture.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
XAR : I was intent to product my work to myself. Camillet design represent XAR design and production.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
XAR : Camillet is made with a collection of natural fibers, that results in a process of braiding. The results were positive and effective to incorporate the corduroy in Camillet. Making the dress unique and marketable.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
XAR : No, isn’t other design or designer that help the influence to Camillet.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
XAR : Camillet is made for anyone who would like to show silhouette in a dress.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
XAR : The Camillet design is a unique artisan piece.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
XAR : The name of this design, Camillet is inspire by my niece’s name. She is my inspiration for this new design.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
XAR : Stockpile techniques inspired by Caribbean culture.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
XAR : The most unique aspect is the feminine silhouette that makes the dress look as well as its spectacular texture, specific in the elaboration of the corset.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
XAR : The team was made up of Michelle Guzmán who worked as editor of the project and Shaileen Toucet who served as model for the XAR Camillet project.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
XAR : The applications that I use are Photoshop & Illustrator program to create the design and presentation.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
XAR : Camillet is a unique dress worked with artisan techniques.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
XAR : The most difficult part of the elaboration of the dress was the making of the braids, the length and the sewing by hand in the corset. The braids had to have the same thickness and design to achieve a perfect and natural impression.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
XAR : I was contacted by A ’Design Award representative that offered me the opportunity to participate in A’ Design Award & Competition.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
XAR : I learned to develop a high quality product.
