DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
PRFC(PL : To ensure the new Seating reflected the Art Deco heritage of this building.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
PRFC(PL : Our aim was to add both function and style to the refurbishment of this Cinema with a look from the 1930's.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
PRFC(PL : Hopefully we can build on this design to win future projects in the Heritage sector.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
PRFC(PL : Several months which including various drawings and prototypes.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
PRFC(PL : The original requirement was part of the tender process, however we changed the concept and ultimate design to fit the Buildings Décor.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
PRFC(PL : We are happy to share our expertise with others.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
PRFC(PL : To meet the requirements of the Heritage overlay on this Building
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
PRFC(PL : Yes, we were influenced by the Architects involvement.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
PRFC(PL : RMIT University and the people of Melbourne.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
PRFC(PL : The opportunity to work on a Building that has survived for nearly 100 years of change and be part of bringing it back to life for the next generation.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
PRFC(PL : It was the name of the project and Building.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
PRFC(PL : The use of templates and prototypes to ensure all the components worked and fitted together.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
PRFC(PL : All aspects brought their own level of uniqueness to this project.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
PRFC(PL : Our skilled Cabinet Makers and Upholsterers, helped to bring this project to life.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
PRFC(PL : Yes we researched various images of the Art Deco style including the Chicago Gothic to get a feel for the type of seating used during this particular point in time.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
PRFC(PL : We thought that this particular project was worthy enough to be included in the Interior Space and Exhibition Design Sector of the Award.
DI: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
PRFC(PL : From our point of view we were extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to work on a Building that was originally designed by Husband and Wife team - Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahoney Griffin.
