We had the distinct pleasure to interview award winning designer Lau King about their original and creative Fine Art Photography design work. Lau King is an award-winning communication designer, that makes our world a better place with their original fine art photography works.
Lau King ("LK") answered Design Interview ("DI") questions about their award-winning work Colors and Lines Fine Art Photography. Interview questions prepared by Frank Scott.
LK : This fine art photography series is inspired from the primary colors - Red, Yellow, Blue which used to appear in design and painting. I would like to create an experimental approach with these 3 colors in reality together with the lines and different perspectives, turning 3-dimension world into a 2-dimension surrealism and painterly photography.
LK : This series tries to move the vision of the world into colors, lines, contrast, geometry and abstraction, seeing the ordinary in extraordinary. Beauty is everywhere in our world which is just waiting to be discovered. I hope the audience could open their vision of the world by knowing there are many perspectives to view our reality.
LK : For the future plans, I would like to photograph more of this theme with the chemistry of colors, lines, geometry form with different perspectives.
LK : This series is not commissioned but based on my passion on photography. I always feel curious and inspired by the world, seeing the beauty of the world in an extraordinary way.

LK : The color theme of this series is based on the 3 primary colors, which marks the signature of the whole series and differs from my other works.
LK : "Colors and Lines" is based on an observation of the world. Through unique perspectives, you can turn any reality into painterly and interesting 2-Dimension artwork.
LK : This project was photographed with digital camera and digital processed by the software Vsco and Adobe Photoshop. Prints are available on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Paper.
LK : Unlike normal photography, audience might feel it like a painting at the first sight from its surreal angles. This is the most interesting and unique part of my photography that it could blur between painting and photography, transcending the ordinary between the state of dream and reality.
LK : Images printed size 40 cm x 30 cm with a black border of 10 cm wide on all sides. Limited edition, 10 for each picture, framed.
LK : I research into the spectrum of colors and discover colors are corresponded by the light wavelength. Without light, there is no colors. Identically, without light, there is no photography. What we capture is a freeze of light and frequency at the moment. Ultimately, photography and colors are complement to each another.
LK : A search for a new and fresh expression of colors and painting in photography medium.
LK : One day, I was invited by the A'Design Award's executive account manager for this competition. I was honored and would like to give a try on my artworks.
LK : Be open mind, be more observative, to think more out of the box, listen more to your intuition.
