DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: Dimdim is a cradle that contains two rocking chairs.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: I wanted to do something new, a cradle that has a future.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: I would like to see it produced and sold.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: Eight Months
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: When I was asked to be a godmother, I wanted to design something for the baby and the parents.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: I'm looking for a company to lease the production rights and who sells Dimdim. I would like to work with royalties.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
: It's a Typology that doesn't get designed very often.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
: I was inspirited by Rockid by Ontwerpduo.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: Young parents, who have a good sense for design. And the grandparents, who like to have the baby visiting but don't like the baby stuff that are a taking huge place in their living area.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: the cradle has a future, it doesn't get put away.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: Dimdim is also the name of my godchild.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
: First I sketched a lot. afterwords I drew it in 3D in vector works.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: It's the first cradle that becomes two chairs when it's not being used anymore.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
: I collaborated with different companies in Belgium to produce my prototype.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
: The hidden clamp and the rotation point underneath the seating.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
: I did a research about the cradle. Where does it go when it's not being used anymore.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: The technical aspects of the chairs, to find a good solution that doesn't attract any attention.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
: Dimdim was published on different blogs. A design award contacted me. I'd had given an exclusive invitation to join the competition.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
: I've learned to keep questioning yourself and the design.
