DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
RE : It's to capture the attention of the end user, child or adult who has been to make him forget the fear and anxiety of the dental visit.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
RE : Create a dental unit composed of those elements essential for the work of the dentist but revisited in such a way to be able to distract the patient.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
RE : Having the ability to materially realize my project.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
RE : About two months.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
RE : The idea was born because I am in direct contact with the dental field by my husband who is a dentist.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
RE : If it were possible to sell or lease the production rights.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
RE : Besides the fact that I frequent this sector also my personal experience from the patient had in the past.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
RE : I was not inspired by any other project or designer of my knowledge.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
RE : The dentist who intends to have a special regard for his patients who are children or not, but also to have a product that facilitates the work in terms of technology and image.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
RE : The singularity of the elements that compose it are: the large video site on the armchair to read the x-rays and to see video to the patients; the shell that encloses the various handpieces thus protecting it from dirt; the operating lamp totally different from those in the trade who creates special light effects when used in a dimly lit room; the mirror and the basin for rinsing also modified so as to facilitate the patient to live a more serene experience.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
RE : It's the set of initial word of : Riunito Odontoiatrico Italiano
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
RE : The sketch manual first and then various 3D modeling programs.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
RE : It's a product made from many products, each different and unique.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
RE : I had to consult with dentists and technicians.
The first to learn about what kind of human relationship you create with patients and also their practical needs; the latter to understand the mechanisms that allow electrical and plumbing exact unit operation.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
RE : It's a fundamental role which contributes to the quality of the work of the dentist and influence the design of the various elements.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
RE : I have not been influenced by the research carried out but I ran a search and then a historic market research to have a greater knowledge of the characteristics of the products they are marketing.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
RE : Realizing my own idea that I had about this product failing to respect the technological constraints that are many.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
RE : To get feedback from experts in the field who can help me to improve my project and understand if it can be brought on the market.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
RE : I learned that to design an dental unit must come into play various technical and professional skills.
To improve my project I tried to study the products already on the market talking with dentists, technicians and sales representatives.
