DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: To make people more aware of their living environment, the WIRE's design is inspired by the people's "way of thinking." Usually, from the moment people see an object with their eyes and send the information to their brains, a little gap called optical illusion, is created. The Wire utilizes this illusion between looking and thinking to create a furniture piece that has both 2d and 3d features. When people look at the chair from different directions, it always looks different, as if moving a 2d wire in a 3 dimensional living space.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: 3 months.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: I plant to sell or lease the production rights.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
: My classmates and a professor reviewed my work when I did the presentation in class. They gave me great suggestions about the joints. I researched after that, and I designed the joints so that they can be efficiently used in rapid manufacturing.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: Middle to high level income customers.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: 'WIRE' describes the figure and concept of the chair. The function and three dimensional structure are achieved by two tubes that are formed in the space.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
: First I used a 3d prototype and actual wires to form the figure. I did a series of designs to figure out which one is the best to achieve function and beauty . And then numerous researches were conducted during the design process.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: It is a durable and light-weight piece that is achieved by the modern technique. All the materials used in this chair can be recycled.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
: Technology is essential.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
: A lot of researches were done including materials, trends, manufacturing techniques, and sustainability.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
: A' Design Competition is one of the biggest design competitions. One aspect that helped me decide was that by submitting my design I can tell the design's level within the world;and the other aspect is that I wish more people could see the design, and get a good manufacturer who is interested in producing it.
