DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
: This design of product is aiming at the comfortable sensitivity of nature which is given by designs that include balance and harmony, including the teleological value which is considered the highest value. The idea of Chyeonnyeonbichaek is based on the Laotzu’s philosophy (Zen) from the Orient. The design is based on the genre painting of Ten Traditional Symbols of Longevity, which is focused on the idea of good health and long life, including Nature-friendly thoughts.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
: Stimulating the human sensitivity harmonized with nature, and especially generalizing the Ginseng, which is the traditional medicinal herb and healthy food, the design was focused on getting out of the traditional package methods and raising the confidence of customers with new package ideas.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
: It is aimed at global commerce of dried ginseng by developing the best structure and package method, which may
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
: I have spent a year with mental agony, collecting data, carrying out historical researches and looking for ideas.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
: I tried to convey the meaning of forefathers’ wisdom, who wanted to harmonize the human desire to be healthy and live long with the laws of nature, through designs to the contemporary people.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
: The patent of design concept, idea, expression and structure is possessed by the Design Team of Woongjin Food. The production is carried out at the production fields and manufacturing fields.
The materials for packing and other subsidiary materials are processed by outsourcing partners..
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
: This project is was begun to solve the problems in the companies using the existing red ginseng packages, and to improve the convenience on the side of customers.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
: I have been inspired by everything in the nature created by the Creator and the genius emotion and sensitivity of Leonardo da Vinci
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
: There are people who are fanatical about creating marvelous tools or things that never have existed before.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
: I think there is similarity in any design. Especially, it is natural for humans to imitate comfortable and beautiful things that have originated for the nature. However, ideas and concepts may reduce the similarity because similarity it does not mean the same.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
: The red ginseng is produced by the second manufacturing of ginseng. And in Korea, such technologies have been handed down across generation for more than 1,000 years. May say the mysterious efficacy is combined with the mysterious technology?
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
: The illustrators, photo shops and 3d max were used.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
: The expression method, in which the hologram foil is used, may be unique as it reminds us the techniques of Korean lacquerware inlaid with mother-of-pearl.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
: In the initial stage, the development was process by the cooperation with Mr. Lee, the brand manager who directs the comprehensive work on brands, the members of Design Team, and Design Boutique which helped us set up the design concept.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
: As for the design technologies for Chyeonnyeonbichaek, the restraint graphic motive and partial stepping for identity of products, the partial epoxy and printing color were defined in accordance with the class of products.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
: Basically, the statistic data about the output and sales of Korean ginseng and red ginseng, the bibliographic data, and the Focus Group Interview that was carried out after development of product idea, helped us develop ideas related to customers’ idea and sensitivities, so that we could establish the direction.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
: We are still suspicious that the design is sophisticated enough to move customer’s mind rather than the old-fashioned style due to the traditional material.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?

DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
: I think design, on one hand, belongs to artistic works, but on the other hand it makes money and guarantees the future. Especially, I think designing provides the most effective way to communicate with customers, learning and solving a lot of problems through this work.

: I wish the A Design Award would be publicized more in Korea..
