DI: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
CW : The main principle behind this design is to celebrate the beauty of nature and the appreciation for life’s finer moments through art. Inspired by modern people’s love for exquisite living and beautiful things, Lets Art created a limited edition enamel badge series themed around the four seasons. Each badge reflects the vitality and emotional connection to the changing seasons, with each one representing a different aspect of nature’s beauty: the vibrancy of spring, the warmth of summer, the abundance of autumn, and the tranquility of winter.
The idea behind this design was to create a commemorative piece that goes beyond aesthetics—offering both artistic value and practicality. It serves as a tribute to the beauty of nature while evoking a sense of nostalgia and celebration of life’s precious moments. This series is meant to connect people with nature’s cycles, making each season a part of their personal story.
DI: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
CW : In designing this work, our primary focus was on how to seamlessly blend artistry with practicality, creating something that not only carries commemorative value but also has a presence in everyday life. Specifically, with the limited edition enamel badge series, we aimed to capture the beauty of the four seasons and convey a deep appreciation for life and nature. Each badge, inspired by the distinct qualities of spring, summer, autumn, and winter, was designed to offer a unique emotional experience for the wearer, making each season a part of their life story and serving as a tangible connection to cherished memories.
Through this design, we wanted to create not just an exquisite piece of art, but also a meaningful symbol that would evoke the passing of time and the beauty of change, allowing the wearer to carry a piece of the seasons with them. Additionally, we sought to foster emotional connections between individuals and the brand, as well as between individuals themselves, making the badge more than just a keepsake, but a representation of shared moments.
DI: What are your future plans for this award winning design?
CW : We are honored to have received the Silver Award for this design, and we are excited about its continued development and broader influence in the future. Our plan is to expand the limited edition enamel series into a more comprehensive collection, not only celebrating the beauty of the four seasons but also exploring other meaningful themes related to life, nature, and milestones. We intend to collaborate with other artists and brands to introduce exclusive limited-edition designs, subtly merging craftsmanship with storytelling. Through these efforts, we hope to contribute to the ongoing legacy of cultural appreciation and artistic expression.
DI: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
CW : The design process for this limited edition enamel badge series took us a solid month and a half, starting from the initial project conception. We went through numerous stages of brainstorming, concept development, and creative collisions. There were countless hand sketches, color explorations, and refinements before we arrived at the final design. It was a true labor of love, where every detail was carefully considered and crafted to capture the essence of the four seasons.
DI: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
CW : This design was created in response to the specific project requirements, beginning with an in-depth process of conceptualization and ideation. We set out to find inspiration by immersing ourselves in nature and various sources of creativity, seeking to reflect the beauty and cycles of the four seasons. We didn’t just start with a single idea but drew upon a combination of influences, making sure to capture the emotional connection that seasons evoke in people's lives.
DI: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
CW : The design rights for this collection are owned by us, and we are handling the production ourselves to ensure the highest quality and attention to detail. At this time, we have no plans to sell or lease the production rights to another company, as we prefer to maintain full control over the creative and production process to preserve the integrity of the design.
DI: What made you design this particular type of work?
CW : The inspiration behind designing this particular work comes from the growing desire of modern individuals to embrace the beauty of the changing seasons while celebrating life's precious moments. We wanted to create a commemorative item that goes beyond simple decoration. The limited edition enamel badges, with their seasonal themes, allow us to celebrate nature's rhythms in a tangible, wearable form. The goal was to craft something that not only reflects the elegance of life but also evokes meaningful connections through the passing seasons, making each badge a piece of art that holds emotional value.
DI: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
CW : The design of this enamel badge series was deeply rooted in our internal creative vision, but it was also subtly influenced by classic enamel craftsmanship and the artistic expression found in both Eastern and Western decorative arts. We studied the way past masters captured time and nature through symbolic motifs and seasonal palettes. While no single designer was directly referenced, the collective influence of traditional artisan practices and modern minimalist aesthetics helped shape our approach. Our goal was to translate the poetic rhythm of the four seasons into a wearable form, and in doing so, we stood on the shoulders of those who have long combined beauty and meaning in daily objects.
DI: Who is the target customer for his design?
CW : This series was created with cultural institutions, enterprise groups, and clients who value design with depth in mind. Our target customers are not only those seeking a beautiful accessory, but also organizations that emphasize cultural identity, legacy, and emotional connection. Whether used as a token of appreciation, a ceremonial emblem, or a medium for storytelling, these enamel badges are ideal for clients within the cultural and creative industries—those who see design as a vehicle for expressing shared values and refined taste. They are perfect for group gifting, internal branding, and commemorating significant moments in a way that is both elegant and enduring.
DI: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
CW : What sets this design apart is our emphasis on the enamel craftsmanship, which surpasses the typical standards in both color variety and fine details. We’ve incorporated an expanded color palette, doubling the typical range used in similar designs, while ensuring the precision and intricacy of each piece. Beyond the craftsmanship, we’ve placed a stronger focus on storytelling. Each badge is not just a seasonal symbol but a narrative in itself, capturing the essence of the changing seasons and the emotions they evoke. This blend of superior craftsmanship and meaningful storytelling creates a unique and highly collectible design that resonates on both an aesthetic and emotional level.
DI: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
CW : The name "DH Seasons in Bloom" was chosen to reflect both the thematic inspiration and the elegant spirit of the design. The term "Seasons" symbolizes the cyclical beauty of nature, capturing the essence of the four seasons—spring, summer, autumn, and winter—each with its own unique charm and significance. "In Bloom" adds a layer of vibrancy, suggesting growth, renewal, and the flourishing of life. The name not only captures the artistic essence of the design but also evokes a sense of timeless beauty and celebration, making it a fitting representation of the limited edition enamel badge series. The inclusion of "DH" connects it to the overarching brand identity, reinforcing the high-end, sophisticated nature of the project.
DI: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
CW : For this project, we used a combination of traditional design tools and digital software. Adobe Illustrator was utilized for creating the initial sketches and design concepts, allowing us to refine and perfect the shapes and layout of each badge. Once the designs were finalized, the enamel artisans employed their craft to create the physical badges, using techniques passed down through generations. The mix of digital precision and traditional craftsmanship helped bring the concept to life in the most seamless and effective way possible.
DI: What is the most unique aspect of your design?
CW : The most unique aspect of this design is its ability to transcend the traditional notion of a keepsake and become a symbol of connection and belonging. By drawing inspiration from the four seasons, the enamel badges celebrate both the vitality of life and the beauty of change. The design was created not only as a commemorative piece for the group's 40th anniversary but also to serve as a meaningful connection point for people at major events. The badges are more than just decorative items; they act as elegant accessories that enhance brand culture and strengthen emotional resonance with the audience.
DI: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
CW : For this design, we collaborated closely with artisans specializing in enamel craftsmanship to ensure that every detail of the badges was meticulously executed. Their technical expertise in enamel work was essential to bringing the intricate designs to life. Additionally, our design team worked with creative experts to conceptualize the overall theme, ensuring that the collection would evoke both aesthetic beauty and emotional resonance.
DI: What is the role of technology in this particular design?
CW : Technology played a key role in the precise production of the enamel badges. The use of advanced techniques in enamel application and metalworking ensured that each piece was both visually stunning and durable. While the artistic process remains hands-on, technology allowed us to achieve a level of precision and quality that elevated the design and ensured each badge was produced with consistency and accuracy.
DI: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
CW : Yes, the design was strongly influenced by in-depth research conducted through surveys and discussions with potential users. We aimed to move beyond traditional corporate gifts and create something truly unique—cultural and creative products (文创产品). We explored global trends, such as the exchange of pins at major events to foster connection and belonging, and used this insight to shape the concept. The enamel badge collection was designed to not only enhance brand identity but also to evoke emotional resonance and strengthen engagement with the audience. Our research helped ensure the design would resonate with people personally, while also serving as a functional and meaningful accessory that connects culture and creativity.
DI: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
CW : The most significant challenge was the intricate enamel coloring process. Each badge required up to 6-9 spot colors to be applied in very small areas, with some designs featuring up to 40 variations of color across the collection. The complexity of ensuring each badge was accurately colored with the required precision made the production process technically demanding. To overcome this, we conducted multiple technical samples and iterations, constantly refining the process and enhancing quality control. Ultimately, we were able to produce and deliver tens of thousands of sets on time for the group's 40th-anniversary event.
DI: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
CW : We decided to submit our design to an international competition because we believe it showcases a unique blend of craftsmanship, cultural storytelling, and brand identity. The A' Design Award offers a prestigious platform for our work to be seen by a global audience, including design experts and industry leaders. We also saw it as a chance to gain international recognition for our innovative approach to designing corporate keepsakes that foster emotional connections with both employees and clients. The feedback from such a competition would be invaluable for future design projects.
DI: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
CW : Through this project, I learned the importance of combining tradition with innovation. While the process of enamel craftsmanship is deeply rooted in tradition, this project challenged me to think about how to incorporate modern design principles and technology to enhance both aesthetic value and emotional impact. I also refined my skills in user-centered design, focusing on how our design could foster stronger connections with the audience and how physical objects can carry emotional and cultural significance. This process has helped me improve my ability to create products that are both meaningful and functional.
DI: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
CW : This project was more than just creating a beautiful product—it was about building a cultural bridge and strengthening connections between people. The limited edition enamel badges were designed not only to commemorate a milestone event but to serve as a timeless keepsake that participants could wear and treasure for years to come. The design has a deeper significance, symbolizing continuity, change, and the beauty of nature while enhancing the sense of belonging among those who wear it. Ultimately, we hope the badges will become cherished symbols of connection and shared experiences.
